We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Keel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up in a community that lack healthy resources I saw first hand how the lack of healthy resources can adversely affect an entire community. Additionally ,After undergoing two surgeries for Uterine Fibroids coupled with a family history of diabetes, and high blood pressure these hit close to home and were eye openers for me. Furthermore, I wanted to be part of the solution and not the problem, so decided to create a solution that will empower women to live healthier lives. Although my services are for all that desire to live healthier I know first hand what women go through to live healthier while taking care of themselves and sometimes a family. In fact, I was a single teenage mother who was forced to work full-time and attend school to receive a degree to make a better life for me and my child. Certainly this was a challenge but did cause a great deal of stress ,anxiety and uncertainty. Therefore I can empathize with women who are force to make though decisions and make the best out of the situation at-hand. In-spite of the unfavorable situation I stay inspired and want to reach back and inspire others to reach for their goals. We aim to reduce the disparities found in health and fitness. Our services have DECREASE negative traditions and built new ones that has transformed lives. We meet each client where they are our focus deals with the Mind, Body & Soul
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the most recent things that sets us apart from others is we have recently added a new component to our business (heated) assisted stretching. We aim to reduce the disparities found in health and fitness. Our services will DECREASE negative traditions and build new ones that is design to transform lives. So we are more than just fitness we are liaison that will reduce generation learned patterns and create healthy options that will create healthier generations to come. Not only are we familiar with the culture and climate of the community we structure our service that deals with mind ,body & soul . Very excited about recently becoming certified as a assisted stretch specialist with over 500 hours of stretching. By no means was it easy to get where I’am now the test to become certified as through NASM was not easy and took two attempts on the second time around I passed. It should be noted that I studied night & day for this exam and made it a priority to learn and retain the material so that I could pass. In spite of my success I would say the lesson I learned along the way is to continue to pray, forgive and find a circle of people that will help you become great. In addition to this love yourself and be your biggest cheerleader.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I probably would take them to a NICE yoga class or a spa wellness center where we can relax then catch up. We would then probably go to a nice bar & grill where we could listen to some great music, eat some great food and have a few glasses of wine. If it was summer we could go to the lake front here the summers make for a great time to relax and sit by the water.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize my mom and daughter. My mom who help me raise my daughter and watched her while I attended school and work and My daughter who always encourages me to not stop. ”Last of all I would like to recognize one of my most recent greatest accomplishments and encouragement was becoming a Celebrity fitness trainer to Grammy award winner Ms. Mavis Staples. As she quotes
“When I met Mary I was like a ship recked. After being quarantined for a year and half ,my body was a disaster. Going back to work was a great task. I had trouble standing on stage, my feet & legs would swell. In addition, my back would tire to the point I had to sit. Thanks to Mary’s work outs my problems have transformed into a time of hope and healing. She is my angel because of Mary this has been my greatest accomplishment in years And I’m so grateful.” Mavis Staples
