We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Wendrich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think as actors we are constantly taking risks, or at least we should be, both in the lifestyle and the craft itself. For me the biggest risk I took was in committing to being an actor. Once committed, everything else just became a test of how far I am willing to push myself. I think risk gives you an opportunity to test yourself, whether its pushing your boundaries as a performer, letting go or embracing your insecurities and delving deeper into what you are capable of doing, in other words unlocking your potential, or if its understanding what your willing to give up in order to succeed. I’ve found that there’s a freedom in taking risks, as I have unlocked limitations that I set on myself and allowed myself to welcome change in my life, as this keeps me moving forwards towards my end goal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was born in Wales, and I’ve worked in film and theatre in the UK and LA. I moved to Los Angeles in 2022 to train at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and since graduating I’ve been fortunate enough to work in feature films, mini series, and short films here in LA, and collaborate with some of the most talented up and coming coming talent in the industry, as well as leading professionals in their field. There are always challenges, such as with my visa and finances, but I am grateful for them as they give me no choice but continually push myself to my limit. With time being of the essence I can’t afford to wait for things to happen on their own. If something needs to be done I have to do it immediately, which in turn has created a rhythm and momentum in my day to day life that is very productive and proactive.

I have some very exciting projects coming up, including a movie series, and a short film which I am directing and co-staring in. I am continually grateful and inspired by the incredible artists around me, and I’m very excited for what the future holds.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Absolutely hitting the beach, probably Newport or Malibu! I would also love to plan a road trip to Yosemite National Park, and the redwoods in northern Cali. Plenty of Coffee, Easy Street Burgers, Fleetwood Mac on the radio, hub tub evenings, and a ping pong tournament for the ages!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts here in Los Angeles! This school has had such a huge impact on me, both as a person and a performer. I cannot overstate the dedication and passion the teachers, directors and faculty have for their students. My time at the Academy exposed me to such a diversity of technique and styles, and their emphasis on holding yourself to the highest of standards has been engraved in my process. I would highly recommend the Academy to anyone thinking of training as an actor, as their graduates carry themselves with a confidence in their craft and a professionalism that rival the best in the industry.
