We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Byer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
To always always always continue my efforts, regardless of success or failure. To sacrifice as much of myself as I can, so I may swim as far as I can – in the hopes that one day, I will have swam so far that the people will cheer, and that cheering will sustain me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Josh Byer, and I’m a painter. My style is called Faux Fauvism. All of my work is dedicated to the memory of my mother, who advised me to pursue my ambitions without hesitation before she passed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I encourage everyone to celebrate the work of Ed Emberly. His drawing books from the 1970s and 1980s were everything to me as a kid. Thank you Ed.
