We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Hartman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Perseverance, discipline, mental focus, and an unwavering passion for cycling have been the driving forces behind my success and resilience. With over 14 years in the sport, my journey has been anything but smooth. From a near-death, life-altering accident to the inevitable injuries that come with high-performance competition, I’ve faced my share of challenges. But success isn’t a straight path. Moving forward means trusting my coaches and trainers, understanding my body’s capabilities, and committing to recovery, healing, and growth. Every setback is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and return even stronger; because for me, it’s not just about winning; it’s about rising, no matter how tough the road gets.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Track Cyclist specializing in sprint events. I compete in an Olympic event known as the Team Sprint. In this event, three riders start from a standstill and race to complete three laps of the track as fast as possible. Each lap, the lead rider peels off, allowing the next to take over until the final rider sprints to the finish line. This event demands explosive power and flawless execution from all team members.”
I am known as the Starter in the Team Sprint—the first rider whose job is to accelerate as quickly as possible and set the pace for the first 250 meters. I need to be incredibly strong and explosive to get up to speed from 0 mph. My goal is to become not just the fastest in the U.S., but the fastest in the world at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Winning my first bronze medal at the 2024 Pan American Championships in Los Angeles, at the Velo Sports Center where I train every day, was an incredibly proud moment. Showcasing the hard work of my teammates and myself in front of a home crowd made the victory even more special. I’m driven to recreate that experience right here in 2028 and make both Los Angeles and my country proud.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city is Santa Monica Pier, there’s plenty of fun activities to do from trying new restaurants to enjoying the beautiful view from the breach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My cousin. He was an Olympic Cyclist and it was thanks to him, that I got introduced to the sport. I started cycling at the age of 12, following his footsteps. The desire to continue this legacy keeps me motivated, driving me to set new goals, perform under pressure, pushing my body to its limits while experiencing the thrill of speed.
Thanks to him, I strive to stand out and be one of the best in the world.
