We had the good fortune of connecting with joshua carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi joshua, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
i decided to dedicate my life to it. music has been a passion of mine since i was a child so it was predetermined that i would create music in the beginning. after realizing that to live i must love what i’m living for, i decided to never stop creating and to pursue music as not only a profession but as a purpose.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
i’m a producer and beat maker. i’ve been creating since i was about 15 years old & one thing that i know that sets me apart as a creative is my overall sound and creativity in my music. it took a long time to build the confidence to share my music and to create the vision that i’ve always wanted to see for myself. it hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth it. those sleepless nights of just tryna get the sound right, discovering new shit from studying the greats that have inspired you, to even no feelin like you’re good enough to even make it. i’ve overcome a lot to be where i am now and i’m grateful for every lesson that’s been apart of this creative journey. if there was something i want people to know about my brand and story it would be to never give up and no idea is a bad idea it just needs to be perfected according to the soul that you are. the essence within us that everyone has is what creates that connection between artist and consumer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
i’m from a small town so we do things a lil different when people visit. i like to make sure the homies and fam is taking care of. we might go to the store just to get the ingredients to your favorite meal and cook for you. get you some good kush if you about that life and then start exploring the city. it’s something here for everyone so it would really be up to them. i’m just here to make sure they’re as comfortable as possible and they have a good time in accordance to them. i know most definitely if they bout it we gotta go to the dayton art institute. it’s a beautiful place thats given me faith to expand my own creativity whenever i go so that’s a go to most definitely.. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
my homies in the camp USRA keep me motivated to create daily. they’re always mad supportive and encouraging to expand my sound and to think further. it’s never a day we don’t show love to each other or reach out to help build each other up.
