Meet Juan Teisaire | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Teisaire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, what do you attribute your success to?
Everything changed, almost like magic, the moment waking up at 5am became a habit. Following the teachings of the books “The 5am Club” and “Atomic Habits” I started to focus not on my goals but on the process of reaching that goal. I wake up at 5am everyday, I go for a run, meditate, plan out my day, learn something new and by 8am I am ready to “start the day”, which means doing acting stuff. Like I said, it kinda feels like magic, stuff happens in your brain that I can’t really explain but, having such a clear morning routine, that requires a lot of effort sometimes, gives you a lot of confidence. Confidence that you use to allow yourself to try new things without fear of failure because you at least know you are succeeding at so many other things from 5am to 8am. This mentality is the reason I booked a role in the movie “If that mockingbird don’t sing” with Kevin Corrigan, played the lead in “Think like a killer”, a documentary for Investigation Discovery (ID) (network owned by Warner Bros), won Best Actor, Best Direction, Best of Festival for my movie “Cortado” which I wrote, produced, directed and acted on and played leading roles in film projects like: “Before you go”, “Personal Pizza”, “Two Wrongs”, “Say Something”, “Canal de Lucas”, “Stranger that Paradise” and “American Daydream” all in less than 6 months.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think, and I’ve been told by some directors I worked with, there is a certain energy in my personality, that might come with me being from a Latin country, that has set me apart from other actors. I also worked as a Carpenter for 10 years while I was slowly transitioning to only acting for a living. I think I bring everything I experienced during that time with me to movie sets or stages and it somehow shows.
But, to answer your question, YES it was hard, in this industry you have to get used to hearing 15 nos and 1 yes and be okay with it. It takes time to understand that those stats have NOTHING to do with how talented you are. Maybe they needed someone with blue eyes, someone taller, or maybe you were better than the famous main actor. Believe me, it happens.
A way I used to deal with this was celebrating everything. If the first month was 7 nos and 1 yes and the next month was 6 nos, 1 yes and 1 maybe. That was a SOLID win. If it was 12 nos and 0 yeses? SOLID win too. I was auditioning more. That mentality led to stop worrying about it so much and, eventually, led to getting a lot more yeses than nos.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think the answer to this question really depends on what season we are in. Summer and Winter make New York look like a different city.
Still, rain or shine, I would try to hit a broadway show, spend at least 5 hours at the Drama Book Shop and a full day at the cute tiny waterfalls on Central Park, take a 2 day trip Upstate, listen to some live jazz, eat at Lolo’s Shack, Numero 28 or any diner and get a beer at Mc Sorley’s pub.
For first time visitors who are feeling the tourist vibe:
– Brooklyn bridge
– MoMa and Museum of Natural History
– Time Square Stairs
– Staten Island Ferry

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I agree 100%. I could mention so many names but I’ll go with the first three that come to mind. – Like I said before, books like “The 5am Club” by Robin Sharma and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear definitely deserve a shoutout.
– My friends and family, especially my mom, who shaped me into the person I am today.
– The city of New York and its constant “moving forward” mentality.
