Meet Julia Newman | Owner & Lead Designer of Julia Adele Design

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I appreciate my job because it provides a meaningful outlet for my creativity. For individuals with a creative disposition, the absence of such an outlet can lead to a sense of frustration or dissatisfaction. Creative expression is essential for personal fulfillment and well-being.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Julia Adele Design apart is our ability to seamlessly blend aesthetics with functionality. I find just as much satisfaction in the creative process as I do in solving practical challenges. Every design thoughtfully considers how the space will be used and how it needs to function in everyday life.
Starting a business is always a challenging journey, but approaching it with the right mindset makes it feel like an exciting adventure. I had to stay patient and put in the effort, knowing that success isn’t something anyone is automatically entitled to—it’s about hard work and a bit of luck. A good sense of humor and the ability to think creatively when faced with problems are also key.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Having grown up in Los Angeles I really tend to stay away from the tourist attractions. The Huntington Library is one of the most beautiful places in Southern California, I could spend the whole day there (and their tea house is wonderful). Tony Tavern’s in Malibu is delicious but also a great location in Malibu. While in Malibu I would stop by El Matador, it is just such a unique beach. A trip downtown to MOMA and Grand Central Market. And lastly hikes throughout Palos Verdes, with the great ocean views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe that none of us are truly “self-made.” Who we become is shaped by the people in our lives and the experiences that guide us. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering support of my husband, Antonio Pedraza Reales, owner of Sevilla Veterinary Hospital.
My design aesthetic was deeply influenced by my upbringing, moving between Los Angeles and England. The bold use of color and pattern in the UK left a lasting impression on me. Another major influence was William Morris—I still remember visiting a gallery of his work at the Huntington Gardens and feeling incredibly inspired.
