We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Leffler from Big Hype Marketing & PR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Big Hype Marketing & PR began as somewhat of a necessity. I had been a stay-at-home mom for 9 years and was faced with some life circumstances that were forcing me back out into the workforce. My background was in Public Relations, but between 2006 and 2015, the world of public relations had changed drastically as social media became a new means of promoting products and services, and traditional media outlets began to retire. While most of my career had been focused on PR, I also had quite a bit of marketing experience especially after six years working for action sports company Hurley, handling both PR and marketing initiatives, and decided to focus my new venture more on the marketing side than the PR side. I launched Big Hype Marketing & PR in 2015 predominantly as a company that provided SEO, Adwords, and Website design. Over the past 5 years, we have grown into more of a creative marketing agency, excelling in visually appealing and comprehensive branding and messaging strategies. Our team has grown in size and capability, and we pride ourselves on our unique selling points: 1. That we customize our services, 2. Have a client-focused approach 3. That we have a close-knit and in-house team, and 4. That we are a full-service agency, which gives us the ability to fully service our clients while also finding the right service to meet their goals, budget, and target audience. Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Big Hype Marketing & PR is a creative marketing agency based in Newport Beach, CA and we are all about building hype around businesses and brands. We work with growing businesses and entrepreneurs locally and nationwide to deliver creative, innovative, and effective marketing solutions. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad was in marketing and worked with many hi-profile celebrities including Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda, and Richard Simmons to name a few. We often traveled with the Olsen’s on different work trips and I spent a lot of time with them. I got to see what goes on behind-the-scenes of filming, photo shoots, press junkets, VIP travel, trade shows and celebrity life. These experiences definitely inspired me to pursue marketing but also gave me the opportunity to feel comfortable around celebrities and not get too caught up in the glitz and glam of marketing and Hollywood. Having already been exposed to marketing and Hollywood allowed me to stay humble and focus on the work and advancing my career. I have since worked with many celebrities on red carpets, press junkets, and at events, and I feel comfortable interacting with them and managing their marketing.
