We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Flora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m a pretty risk averse person. Starting Flora Brewing grew organically in the beginning and now I’m starting to take more risks in attempting to make it a full time job. Since I began the Instagram and Youtube channel I’ve been working a full time job on top of creating content and honestly, it’s rough sometimes. I’m about to take the big step of going part time at my job to pursue the content creating in a larger way and though it’s exciting it’s also really scary!
What should our readers know about your business?
Above all else, Flora Brewing is an education platform for homebrewers. I teach people how to make beer through my Youtube channel and Instagram and answer their questions along the way. To get where I am today I just kept making content and people kept watching it. I wouldn’t say it’s easy, I had to first learn how to brew myself, then to edit video, take photos, and explain what I’m doing the whole time. I’ve learned that the people involved in the beer world are the real reason I keep chugging along making content. The community is really spectacular and it keeps me motivated to try new things and put more and more of myself out there.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a total homebody but some local bars I would frequent in the before times were Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank, Glendale Tap in Glendale, and Good Times at Davey Waynes in Hollywood. My favorite breweries in LA are Eagle Rock Brewery, Macleods in Van Nuys, and Common Space in Hawthorne.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My new business partner Ashley Eliot is the person I would credit for pushing me to seeing what I’m doing as a viable business. For a long time I was just posting on Instagram and making YouTube videos for the fun of it but with Ash behind me I’ve been able to make it into more of an actual business.
