We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Growing up I moved around California quite a bit and that’s really made me into who I am today. There’s nothing scarier than moving from a school where everyone knew you, to one where absolutely no one knew you. As I bounced around schools, making friends became second nature to me. I had to meet new people constantly and be able to express myself. From this experience, I’ve really become a people person, and hearing about people’s lives and day to day struggles is always very interesting to me. It’s interesting that there are people who may have the most interesting life on earth, and I’ll never meet them. That’s why I love talking to people, most people, surprisingly enough, are willing to tell you their life story if you ask and are genuinely interested. Hopping around schools to some may have flipped their whole lives upside down, but for me, it really was a blessing. Without those experiences, I’d definitely not been the person I am today,
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been making silly videos since I’ve been a kid and I’ve had the time of my life since. I still am learning and working towards bigger and better products but I’m still persevering. So far, the journey has been a breeze, working on things that you love to do really never feel like work, and it’s awesome to see the feedback you get from friends on your projects. Good or bad! To all the young content creators persevere and just keep trying!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take them to the Claremont Village! It’s such a fun spot to grab some food or boba. Pokedot is one of my favorite places right now, the staff there are the best and the food is great! The village as a whole is an awesome place to simply walk around and take in the scenery. The colleges nearby are also beautiful. For ice cream, I’d take them to L’moon creamery in Upland for some of the best soft serve I’ve ever had. Upland and Claremont are truly fun places if you know the right spots!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d definitely love to shout out my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be nearly as confident or creative as I am today. I’d love to shoutout all my childhood shows too for pushing me towards the path of video making as its really such a blast to do.
