Meet Kaiya Warren | Cake Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaiya Warren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaiya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I worked at an ice cream shop for years and decorated ice cream cakes. When I had my son I wanted to generate an income while being at home with him. I decided to make a cake for my friend’s birthday and received amazing feedback. It was then that I decided I was going to take the plunge and start my own business

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was the worst cake decorator at the ice cream shop I worked at. I was truly convinced that I just did not have the skill for it. I started my business and I fell in love with the art of creation. I started appreciate the process. Most of my clients allow me to do a freestyle within specific parameters. That allows my imagination to run wild. I get information on who they are, what they’re celebrating, and what their vision is. What are the decorations look like? What is your outfit gonna look like? My cakes are a part of celebrations and I want them to be memorable. What sets me apart from others is my integrity. I’m very meticulous when it comes to details and understanding my clients desires. I have the honor of being part of their special day and I want to exceed their expectations

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited in California is Coronado Beach. You take a bridge just outside of San Diego to the small town that sits right on the ocean. The architecture is ethereal. And the restaurants are impeccable. You can smell the fresh sea salt water as you’re walking past the sweet gelato shop. We’d spend the week trying the different restaurants, enjoying a boat trip, and eating dessert while we watch the sunset. There are so many local shops that sell beautiful trinkets as a souvenir. The people are happy and full of life perfectly sun kissed and cheerful. Everything is beautiful by the ocean.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother deserves all the credit in regards to the success of The Frosted Vintage. As a single mother my time and mental bandwidth was limited. My mother watched my son day and night during those long hours of brainstorming, recipe testing and business events. She has been by my side for every pop up and cake class. Always sharing my designs with coworkers and friends. Most importantly she told me it was possible. It was possible to be a young single mother and build a successful business. With her by my side I have no limits.
