We had the good fortune of connecting with Kana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kana, what is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?
Looking back, I’ve grown by learning how to honor the vision behind a project while bringing my full self into it. I’ve learned that when each person steps into their role with clarity, the entire project comes together more fully.

Whether I’m on set or hosting a conversation, I approach every project with the same mindset. I begin by understanding what we’re creating together. I pay close attention to the producers and directors to grasp the vision, and then I step into my role with confidence, while staying aware of everyone involved, from makeup artists and hairstylists to photographers and the wider production team. That awareness allows me to bring my best to the role I’m given.

I think carefully about how the project will be received, what impression it will leave, and how the experience will feel for the audience. To me, entertainment only works when it truly reaches someone. That perspective shapes how I approach the work.

I’m very aware that everyone in this industry has worked hard to earn their place. That awareness keeps me grounded. I believe that consistently showing respect, staying prepared, and thinking beyond myself is what allows me to keep building meaningful relationships and expand my work into new creative spaces.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Looking back, so much of my life has been about finding where I belong.

I love my family, my friends, and the place where I was raised. Still, being between cultures, I often felt different both in how I looked and how I thought. I learned early on that I didn’t fully fit into just one space, and that shaped how I see the world.

As a teenager, I found myself turning to films and art. I was drawn to stories that reached beyond borders. What stayed with me was not just the story, but the energy behind it. I could feel how many people were coming together to build something vibrant and alive. That experience made my world feel bigger.

For the first time, I felt a sense of direction. I didn’t just admire that world. I knew I had to step into it.

Since then, that spark has guided my choices. It’s not about glitter on the surface. It’s about creating something that might reach someone who is searching, the way I once was. Sometimes it only takes a spark to remind someone what’s possible.

When I create, I carry that intention with me. I care deeply about the way something looks and feels, but also about depth in conversation and the message being shared. I want the audience to feel something real, something that stays with them and moves them forward.

I am still stepping into that world. Each project is part of that journey. My work is my way of offering light and intention. I want it to carry a subtle spark that reaches people, awakens possibility, and encourages them to step into their own world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting LA, I would want them to understand why this city feels so special to me. The weather, the nature, and the energy of the people shape its character.

On a weekend morning, I would take them to one of the neighborhood farmers’ markets. You can find stands influenced by different cultures, and you also get to see everyday life in the area. It is fun just walking around, grabbing fresh coffee or juice, and taking in the atmosphere. Then we would have brunch at Home in Larchmont before wandering through Los Feliz. I love that area because it feels relaxed while still creatively alive.

In the afternoon, we would head to Silver Lake and Echo Park for thrift shopping. The thrift and select shops in that area attract people with great style, and even just browsing feels inspiring. It almost feels like a living museum of personal expression. One of my favorite spots is Lemon Frog in Echo Park. When we get tired, we would stop by Cafe Nido. Its calm, artsy decor and quiet atmosphere capture a very specific LA mood.

As the sun starts to set, we would head to Malibu. If you come to LA, you have to watch the sunset by the beach at least once. On the way back, we would grab seafood at Neptune’s Net or Malibu Seafood. It is simple, but that is part of the charm.

And if we still have energy, we would end the night in Highland Park. I would want them to actually meet people there. LA is not just about scenery. It is about the creatives from different backgrounds, the conversations, and the unexpected connections you can make.

Of course, this plan completely ignores LA traffic, but that is part of the fantasy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout would go to the television and radio platforms that saw potential in me early on. I was originally approached because of the community I had built through YouTube and social media, as well as my cross-cultural perspective and creative expression. That opportunity felt significant to me. It was new territory, and I understood that I would need to prove myself through the work.

Over time, I was trusted to contribute both on camera and behind the scenes, with space to share ideas and take initiative.

Because of that trust, I was able to contribute to the visual and editorial direction. In a professional environment, having my perspective welcomed mattered to me more than I expected. It shifted my mindset from carrying out a role to actively building something together. Through ongoing discussions, we continued refining the tone and presentation of the show, helping it connect with a broader and more diverse audience.

I’m grateful to the television and radio teams in Los Angeles who trusted me early on and created space for me to grow. Their support pushed me to show up with greater intention and continues to shape the way I approach my work.
