We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve been drawn to the performing arts from a very young age. There’s something truly magical about sharing the stage with others who share the same passion. As I grew older, acting became more than just an interest, it became an important part of my life. It allows me to explore different facets of human nature and experience emotions that I might not encounter in my everyday life.

The reason I pursued a career in acting is because it gives me the chance to embody characters with unique stories. Through these roles, I can connect with audiences on a deeper level, helping them see the world from new perspectives. What I love most is the thrill of bringing to life characters that are completely different from who I am, as well as those I can relate to. It’s exciting to step into these different lives and explore their complexities.

When I was younger, I dreamed of being everything—an astronaut, a teacher, a detective, an artist, a dancer, and more. Acting allows me to live out those dreams, to be whoever I want to be. It’s a challenging yet immensely rewarding journey, and I’m grateful every day to be part of it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is all about storytelling, whether through acting, singing, dancing, writing, filmmaking or any other creative expression, I strive to connect with audiences on a deep emotional level. What sets me apart is my ability to immerse myself fully into the characters I portray, bringing authenticity and depth to every role. I’m most proud of the moments when my performances resonate with others, when I can see that I’ve touched someone or made them think differently about a situation.

Getting to where I am today has been far from easy. The journey has been filled with challenges, from moments of self-doubt to the fierce competition in the industry. However, I learned early on that perseverance is key. I overcame these challenges by staying true to my passion, constantly working on my craft, and surrounding myself with supportive people who believe in me.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience. There will always be obstacles, but each one is an opportunity to grow and learn. Another valuable lesson is to never lose sight of why I started in the first place, my love for storytelling and the desire to connect with others through art.

What I want the world to know about my story is that it’s a testament to the power of determination and the belief that you can achieve your dreams, no matter how difficult the path may be. My art is a reflection of my journey, and I hope it inspires others to pursue their passions with the same dedication and love that I have for mine.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were to visit me, it would be a dream come true. I’ve imagined countless times how incredible it would be to have them here with me. Of course, I’d invite them to stay at my apartment—my mom always says, “Where there’s room for one, there’s room for everyone,” so they’d be more than welcome to share my space.

Given that most of my friends are also involved in the performing arts industry, I’d focus on giving them an experience centered around the vibrant culture and iconic landmarks of Los Angeles. We’d kick off the week with a visit to some of the city’s most famous tourist spots. I’d take them to the Walk of Fame, where we could stroll down the sidewalk, admiring the stars of legends past and present. We’d definitely stop by the TCL Chinese Theatre to take in its historic significance and explore the nearby attractions. The Santa Monica Pier would be a must-see, offering a perfect blend of fun, scenic views, and that classic Californian vibe.

For the art and history lovers, a trip to The Getty Villa would be on the agenda, where we could immerse ourselves in ancient art and stunning architecture. And since we’re all passionate about the entertainment industry, I’d make sure we attend a movie premiere to experience the thrill of the red carpet or visit a film festival to soak in the creative atmosphere. A drive through Beverly Hills to see the beautiful homes and a leisurely stroll down Rodeo Drive would give them a taste of LA’s luxury.

When it comes to food, I’d start our days with breakfast at my favorite cafe, Urth Caffe in West Hollywood, where we could enjoy their delicious coffee and organic dishes. For dinner, we’d definitely dine at Bottega Louie in Downtown LA—a place known for its vibrant atmosphere and exquisite cuisine. We’d also explore Universal CityWalk or spend a day at Universal Studios for some amusement park fun.

Another highlight would be attending a live taping of a sitcom at Warner Bros. Studios, where we’d get to see the behind-the-scenes magic of television. And for some relaxation and shopping, we’d visit The Americana at Brand in Glendale and spend some time in Pasadena, exploring its charming streets and historic spots.

By the end of the week, my friends would have experienced a mix of LA’s artistic culture, entertainment, and the iconic landmarks that make this city so special. It would be a week filled with unforgettable memories, laughter, and the joy of sharing my life here with the people who mean the most to me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family. They’ve always supported my dreams, encouraged me when I needed it most, and stood by me during the toughest times. Both my mom and dad have been incredibly strong pillars in my life, helping me push forward and reach my goals. My parents not only believed in me but also made countless sacrifices so I could pursue my passion. Their unwavering faith in my potential and constant encouragement gave me the strength to keep going, even when the path was challenging. Without their love and support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Throughout my years of training, there were two places that significantly shaped my journey as an artist and storyteller. I want to give a special shoutout to ProArt Toluca, a musical theater academy that felt like home during my teenage years. This academy provided me with the tools I needed to discover my passion, offering top-notch training in dance, singing, and acting. The amazing teachers and coaches there played a crucial role in helping me become who I am today. It was in this nurturing environment that I realized my true calling and honed my skills as a performer.

Lastly, I want to thank the New York Film Academy, the university that allowed me to take those skills to the next level. My focus there was solely on acting, and thanks to the incredible professors and leadership, I learned to overcome my fears, step out of my comfort zone, and prepare myself to take my first steps into the industry. The experience at NYFA was transformative, pushing me to grow not just as an actor, but as an individual ready to face the demands of the entertainment world.
