We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Melton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, how do you think about risk?
I often tell my students that risk taking is one of the building blocks of success. I believe that without taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone there is no room for growth in business or life in general. When I decided to start my business, I didn’t have much money and was taking a huge leap by quitting my job and making the decision to sink or swim. It was one of the most frightening things that I have ever done, but that bravery and determination paid off for me in the long run. Just remember that the scarier something is, the more important it is that you do it. We often think to ourselves “What if I fail?”. What we forget to ask ourselves is “What if I succeed?”.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kate Melton Coaching is a collective for Actors to gain industry level training in Acting, as well as career guidance and mentorship. We have students from all over the world in our virtual scene study classes. The thing that makes Kate Melton Coaching different from other Acting Studios is that we are more like a family. We go through life’s challenges together, but also life’s victories. Being in the entertainment industry can at times feel lonely, so we have cultivated an environment for actors to always feel supported and guided. I started this business with passion in my heart for working with Actors and I love that I am able to share my 18 years of experience in the industry with my students. So many of the things that Actors face now, I have also faced. I wanted to create the kind of environment that I wish I had access to when I was a young actor.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My first stop would be Disneyland of course! You just can’t beat that Disney magic! I would also suggest riding bikes in Santa Monica or Venice, maybe heading over to the boardwalk after to play some classic carnival games.
My dinner of choice will ALWAYS be Sugarfish!
I love museums, The Getty in particular. It is just full of treasures that I could spend all day exploring!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my wonderful Husband for always being there to cheer me on. It is so important to build a strong community of people that believe in you and support you.
