Meet Kathy Garcia: Floral Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathy, what do you attribute your success to?
The main factor that’s placed my brand in the spotlight, is humility. I value every person that has crossed my path, and have listened to their stories. I have an extensive history with working with people and listening to their stories, the good and the bad. The main thing I’ve learned is everybody wants love and to be accepted. Therefore, when I surround my creations around those two aspects, I then create their visions. As long as you have good intentions, then you will succeed at whatever you put your mind too.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand is named FloralsByKathyG because it’s an extension of my creative world. I am not your typical florist. Every arrangement is designed with intention. The intention can be creating light for someone who needs uplifting or it can be empowerment to help that person to get back up and keep going. Creating with intention is what sets me apart from other brands. Flowers alone are just flowers but when you have a story behind it, it’s your own story. I am so proud of the joy I’ve created through my work. The response I receive after a client is delivered their creation Is beyond priceless. It’s relieving to work in this industry where you are utilizing nature’s finest beauty to bring joy to people’s lives. It has not been easy to get to where I am. I have always been creative as a little girl and utilized any scraps of clothes, paper, and even flowers to create something beautiful, yet different. I never thought I would have the word “creative” in my job title. Honestly, it’s a surreal moment for me. I grew up in a community that did not normalize becoming an artist as a way of a successful lifestyle. I was about to give into that mindset but my creativity was stronger and kept showing up in my daily life. I’ve learned so many lessons in my journey and I’ll continue to learn as I grow. One lesson I can share is that you have to just show up. Showing up to whatever you want to pursue is already a foot in the door of your dreams. Showing up is probably the hardest thing you can do when you don’t know what’s next for you. In my case, I just started to create what my mind was envisioning and then everything came effortlessly after. Take the risk, get off your butt and just do it. Nature is all around us and is the best teacher we were given. I am constantly being the student and learning from my surroundings in order to create the best of the best arrangements.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, so many beautiful places in LA. I’m a huge coffee fan, so I would recommend this coffee shop in Westwood, Called Espresso Profeta. They have the best iced vanilla cappuccino! Then, you are close to the beach so I would recommend North Italia in Santa Monica, a block away from the pier. I love their classic spaghetti and meatballs. The atmosphere there is also great, that you will get a small glimpse of Italy. If you’re visiting LA you have to check out all the small business on Abbot Kinney and pick up some ice cream from Salt and Straw. LA is filled with diverse community so it’s important to check out, DTLA, Santa Monica, Malibu, Echo Park, and Playa Vista to take in the city’s diverse beauty. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my fiancé, Corey Black, and my best friend Bella Coleman. They are the main people who have empowered me to keep going and to not hold back in my floral creations. As supportive as they can be, they will also have no problem telling me how it is and question a project if they believe I can do better. I am a strong believer in surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to be better. Energy is everything.
