We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Ghassemi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
It’s so hard but I’m just lucky I can take my baby most everywhere with me. So I’d have to say combining has helped balance work and family because they are simultaneous. My partner is able to spend a lot of time at home and drives me around to all my listing appointments, showings, inspections, baby’s doctor visits, lunches, mom’s events; we get to spend time together as a family all day.
Even just taking those day-to-day actions together feels sweet–I don’t need big outings and fabulous dinners everyday to feel the love and comfort of my family. I have goals, yes. I’d like to run a 10K in July, training four days a week leading up to then. I am lucky to have friends and family that can encourage and help me level up when I set a goal. I think balance is accepting help from others and not trying to do it all yourself. I have to give all aspects of my life their time and attention, or the whole starts to crash.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a realtor isn’t easy but I enjoy every minute of it! I’m at my computer by 8am and jamming all day until 8pm when the darkness stills me…its that realization of, “Oh, ok, I can relax. I can start again fresh tomorrow.” Time blocking has been instrumental in helping me have a time and place for accomplishing everything, and that system keeps me accountable to my clients, family, and friends. It’s the ability to help others each and every day in my work that keeps me going on to the next day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I’d have my guest going everywhere! LA is just bursting with too many fun things to do. But we’d be sure to get in these noms and stops:
Best Breakfast Views: Griddle Cafe at Yamashiro – Hollywood
Best Lunch Spot: Eastside Italian Deli – Los Feliz
Best Fancy Dinner: Spago – Beverly Hills
Best Hike: Griffith Park
Best Museum: The Getty Villa – Pacific Palisades
Chillest Rooftop: Mama Shelter – Hollywood
Best Group Activity: Dodger’s Game – Elysian Park
Best Small Theatre: The Pasadena Playhouse
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is dedicated to the fictional character, Holden Caulfield–of J.D. Salinger’s, Catcher in the Rye–who taught me that the only way out is through.
