We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayli Sandoval and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayli, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the key part to becoming successful in your craft is accepting failure. As a creative, I view myself as my greatest adversary and challenge. Overcoming the fear of failure and “what would happen if XYZ doesn’t turn out the way I want it to?” leads to the discovery of new approaches to something that is no longer working.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I’m only 20, art has been an expressive medium in my life for so long. This nurtured creativity has allowed me to experiment with different forms of art and expression. Currently, I pour a lot of time into video editing, drawing, and graphic designing.

During the pandemic in 2020, though, is when my love for the arts turned into something more than a hobby. I downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro that summer with little editing experience. My mental health was in an unstable place and I needed to commit my time to something distracting, yet promising. The first edit I ended up making with Premiere quickly went viral on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter — introducing millions to who I am and who I have the potential to be. The reactions and feedback I was receiving from strangers around the world proved to me that my talent was meant to be shared. My art, regardless of which medium, is meant to tell stories and provoke emotions and/or inspiration.

Since then, I’ve picked up freelance as a side-hustle, still pursuing my BA in Media Studies and Film. Post-grad, I plan to conquer new levels of success and recognition within the art community. I would love to experiment within the documentary-filmmaking field and the fashion world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am actually not from L.A., but San Diego; so, this question is a little more tricky for me to answer. The one place that came to mind (I KNOW IT’S TOURISTY, I’M SORRY) is the Griffith Observatory. The view of the city is absolutely mesmerizing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh, absolutely! I’d be a fool not to shout out one of my most creative friends @8illy. His work never fails to put a smile on my face and inspire me. <3
