We had the good fortune of connecting with KB Vega and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KB, how do you think about risk?
If you don’t take risks, how will you know the outcome? It could be better than you ever imagined, right? Funny, I’ve always been the one to ‘just go for it’. Just jump right in and learn along the way. A little irrational, a little impulsive? Maybe. But how I see it, life is all about taking risks. You just have to dive right in and hope for the best. This was the basis for me moving to NYC in my early 20’s within a weekend of visiting. This was the attitude with me quitting my corporate job with no plan in place to focus on starting my own business (best decision I EVER made by the way). This was my mindset when going all in for signing up to go to a boot camp for entrepreneurs this past January that I knew was going to me mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting but extremely powerful and helpful for me professionally and personally. The way I look at it is, is that if I never took those risks, I would still probably be at my dead-end corporate job, completely unhappy, hating life. And if I never moved to NYC the way I did, I probably would have never met the love of my life, my husband Anthony. Although it might sound very cliché, I do believe in the saying that ‘things happen for a reason’. You have to take the risk to find out. And most of the time, it will be better than you expected. So, how has the role of risk played in my life as well as my career? A big one. Cuz, if I hadn’t taken those risks at those specific times, who knows where I would be today?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People always ask me what sets my business apart, and my answer is always the same: I am a one-woman, small business who has struggled with low self-esteem, body issues, and zero confidence. I wanted to create a business that not only offers clothing to make women feel cute, comfy, and confident but also fosters a sisterhood; a community that empowers, uplifts, and inspires. Yes, we are a clothing and lifestyle brand, but we are so much more. We began as a positivity platform on IG, where I shared my journey through loss, trauma, addiction, and abuse. By opening up and telling my story, I hoped to reach people facing similar struggles.

Incorporating my love for fashion with my passion for inspiring and helping others led to the creation of InspiHER Empire. By turning my life around, I found a way to help others do the same. Overcoming my challenges and reaching where I am today is one of my biggest accomplishments and what I am most proud of. I’ve learned to be more patient with myself, the importance of self-care and love, the power of a positive mindset, and the strength in owning your truth, no matter how messy or ugly it is. This self-healing journey hasn’t been easy, but I continue learning as I go, knowing I am on the right path toward fulfilling my purpose.

Starting your own business is not easy, and believe me, there have been setbacks and some major learning curves. But what keeps me going is the knowledge that I am making a difference in someone’s life by staying true to myself and being an inspiration to them through my story as well as my creativity. I always say that if I inspire at least one person a day, then I am doing something right. That’s what my brand, my mission, and my purpose are all about.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie came to Boston for a week, we’d definitely hit up some art museums like the ICA, Peabody Essex Museum, or the Isabella Gardner Museum. I love exploring different museums, checking out other artists’ work, and diving into featured exhibits—it’s where I find so much of my inspiration. Art museum visits would be at the top of our list.

In the summer, beach trips are a must. We’d head to the beaches in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Maine. I adore spending time by the water, feeling the sand between my toes, and listening to the waves—it’s so relaxing. And nothing caps off a beach day better than indulging in some oysters or steamers, so we’d find a waterfront restaurant with great food and a stunning view.

A mini road trip to New England’s charming towns like Rockport, MA, Newport, RI, Mystic, CT, Ogunquit, ME, or Portsmouth, NH, would be on the agenda too. I love discovering new places, meeting interesting people, savoring delicious food (I’m a big foodie), enjoying the scenery, and browsing local shops—whether it’s an hour’s drive or five. Jumping in the car with good company and great music makes for the perfect road trip.

We might even take a quick trip to Montreal for a couple of nights or a spontaneous day trip to NYC for some shopping. The less planned, the better—spontaneity is where the real fun is!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, anyone who has shown me or my business any type of love & support since starting my business deserves recognition. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. That goes for my family, friends, customers, followers on my social media platforms, my community when I do my pop-up vendor booths and other publications I’ve been featured in such as She Stories, Artisan Joy, VoyageLA, Bold Journey, Canvas Rebel, Disrupt Magazine as well as other businesses I’ve collaborated with such as The Identity of She and Babes In Business Boston.

Also, I have to give a huge shoutout to Wes Bergmann and the whole BetaBlox family for their knowledge, advice, wisdom, and expertise. I was given an amazing opportunity to learn the ins and outs of scaling my business by attending their entrepreneurial boot camp this past January (which was also being filmed for a docu-series that will be airing soon!). I am forever grateful for what I learned there as well as the connections I made with all the other entrepreneurs who I met at that boot camp who have become fast friends and one of my biggest support groups.

I have to also give credit to anyone who has given me advice and/or tips for succeeding in my business & most importantly, to my husband Anthony, who has become my pro-bono photographer for my website and socials, my assistant at my vendor booths, my creative director when I am having designer’s block, my shoulder to cry on when I am doubting myself, my teacher, when sharing his wisdom about business (he owns his own small business too) as well as dealing with my business literally taking over our home, where my product is everywhere.

And last but not least, to this Shoutout Series for my story/brand/business to be shared.
