We had the good fortune of connecting with Keana Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had a heart for Entrepreneurship. I knew I would own my own business one day, because I hated working under people, and I hated the thought of my salary being in the hands of a corporation that don’t even know my name. During the Pandemic I prayed and asked God when would be the time to start a business. After six months, I heard God say, “Now!” I started reaching out to vendors and stumbled across some Vegan soap. The vendor I went through didn’t allow their soap to cure fully so it dissolved quickly. So I googled, “How to Make Vegan Soap” I learned and posted on Facebook and people were ready to place an order that same day!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, for starters. My name is Keana, and I am the owner of Black Saved Vegan. I make Vegan soap, I’m a Black Woman, and I am a lover of Jesus Christ. The purpose of BSV, is for minorities to feel the love of God through each bar that they use. When I make soap, I am very invested in each detail of each bar. It’s a form of therapy to me.
I am where I am professionally because of God, truly. You’re probably thinking, “ Okay girl, we get it! You love God.” But, when you pray for things, and wake up and see everything you ask for fall in line… you have to think there is a Higher Power helping you out!
This journey hasn’t been easy. I am firm believer that broken people build broken businesses, so there’s been a lot of internal work done that has contributed to the move of this business.
I’ve overcome depression, self-hatred, low self esteem, and overall believing that I am unworthy. So when you see me, know that you can overcome as well, and you WILL!

I want the world to know LOVE. Love is patient. Love is Kind. Making soap takes love. You have to be patient, and allow your soap to cure before shipping to customers, you have to actually love making soap because otherwise you are just like all the other major corporations, that don’t care about our skin.
I make it my business to find the best ingredients for my soap. Clean ingredients that will not only moisturize your skin, but leave you feeling soft and supple.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man, where do I start? There’s a Black Owned Plant Lounge in Deep Ellum called Energy Gardens! The vibe is so nice. You can sit with a cup of coffee, buy some plants and vibe to music!

I love Fiction Coffee in Deep Ellum, I’m on first name basis with the staff because I practically live there!

White Rock Lake is the perfect place for a Saturday afternoon picnic.

UpperRoom Dallas, is a great place to sit during the week, listen to worship music while you work!
I could go on and on!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to thank God. All of this is because of Him, all of this is FOR Him. Next, my Mother Tricia, she has always believed in my dreams, no matter how unorthodox they were. LOL
