We had the good fortune of connecting with Keci Moniquè and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keci, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially starting a business is not where my mindset was. I was a young entrepreneur who had no idea about the process of business. Initially I got into the business of braiding hair because I needed to feed myself. I was 15 years old in the product of a drug addict mother and an ambivalent father who chose to have more children with his wife and care for those children while leaving me behind. I had to find my way and for approximately 30 years braiding hair not only paid my bills but it took care of me substantially. Thus, it was something that had to be done.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I love Jekyll Island. We would definitely visit Jekyll Island to hang out at the beach. We would even dine at Tortuga Jacks because we love Mexican food. We would then take a drive to Hilton Head, South Carolina to chill out for some really R&R (rest and relaxation). After two days in HH, we would go to Jacksonville, Florida, to do some shopping, skating, definitely eating because the food options are abundant. Have a spa day and sip some pink champagne. Finally, have an enjoyable double date with our husbands before they leave. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes. ABSOLUTELY! My husband of almost 10 years. One of my dearest friends who I call my sister LaFawn, and of course my clients and supporters over the years.
