We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelleia Sheerin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelleia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Hello, I’m Kelleia ~ a professional dancer/director/designer who made a wild & wonderful bag to carry around my world!

I was traveling a lot with work and I needed a Better Bag – something practical that wouldn’t wreck my body. One that could carry ALL the things I needed. And… it needed to be stylish (because hello?). A bag that I could wear on my body, freeing my hands for work, my shoulders from stress and my mind from worry. A fanny pack if you will. But for the hips!
A hip hip bag

Because I was a professional dancer, I also needed the bag to support my body! So I designed it ergonomically ~ to ride low thereby dropping the hips slash floating the spine and shoulders. It worked!! It’s wonderful! It’s actually good for you!

Every time I wore the bag people would ask me where they could buy one… or a few ~ so I started to make them for others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am obsessed with clean, sexy alternative energy and am an environmental advocate. My hubby & I converted our yard into a California Native, drought tolerant eco-system, rock solar panels and drive EV. On a larger scale, I’m involved with BareFoot College (in conjunction with Participant Media), a village-based organization empowering women to become solar engineers.

When I created the first Kelleia Luna Bags, I made them from leather ~ and they were gorgeous. Over the years, I’ve transitioned the bag to a more eco-friendly and sustainable design starting with organic hemp and recycled bamboo. The new hemp/bamboo bags are machine washable, will last decades and will only get better and better the more broken in they grow.

I believe opportunity is built directly into crisis. And so, my new passion and commitment is to transition the design into making the bag out of recycled plastics gathered from our oceans. Recycled plastic fabric can be both sturdy and soft, beautiful and bold, eco and chic. Eco-chic!

With the same ergonomic design, the Kelleia Luna Bag just keeps getting better and better!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Parker Palm Springs ~ they have everything – a spa, restaurants, nature, night life, rad decor, great staff and gorgeous grounds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am dedicating my Shoutout story to my dynamic, brilliant, firecracker of a woman and my real life heroine, my mother! JoAnn Sheerin in a dynamo of a woman. Everyday she strives to help others, she shares herself with her family and she LIVES!! She is optimistic, realistic and believes in and supports anyone anywhere trying to better their lives be it through spirituality, health or, her favorite, education! My father’s and her legacy is: GENEROSITY. I strive to live as generously as they have and give thanks every single day that I get to call them mom and dad.
