We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love this question. I’ve always been a believer in taking risks, as taking risks help you to grow. Without taking risks you stay stagnant, and I believe that taking risks is crucial in order to elevate to that next step in your personal life and career.
Taking risks has played a huge factor in my life and career, from moving across the country in the middle of the pandemic to chase new opportunities, to leaving the stability of a 9 to 5 job so I can pursue a career in real estate full time. Taking a leap of faith and believing in yourself is totally worth the risk, and it can also bring out your best self. Plus, you never know what’s on the other side of taking that risk.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed REALTOR® in California, Georgia, and Florida, and have been in the real estate industry for nearly 8 years. After living in Atlanta, GA for over a decade and selling real estate in both Georgia and Florida, I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles in the middle of the pandemic and basically started over. I always had huge dreams and goals, and knew that LA was that next step. I got my real estate license in CA, and quickly started selling homes again.
The journey has been incredibly amazing and I have grown so much personally and professionally, but it absolutely has not come easy. Challenges came with having to learn an entire new market and how to do real estate in a different state, but with consistency and hard work I’ve been able to navigate my way around and am enjoying the journey!
The journey of real estate is not as glamorous as what’s portrayed on TV, and many people give up within their first two years. I want people to know that if you continue to believe in yourself and accept hardships as just temporary obstacles, you can achieve anything you set your mind to! You have to keep a positive mindset and continue working on and growing your business. Staying dedicated to what I truly love to do and helping others keeps me motivated to keep going. I love connecting with people and being able to share in their journey of homeownership.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a great question! There is SO much to do in the city and so many hot spots to check out. One of the first places I’d take my best friend would be to Malibu beach – that’s one of my absolute favorite places to visit. I’d also take my friend hiking at Runyon Canyon since you can see some of the best views of the city there. We’d catch the sunset at an overlook on Mulholland Drive, eat dinner at Catch on Melrose and at Bacari in Silverlake, and find a farmers market to go to. A trip to LA wouldn’t be complete without shopping on Rodeo Drive, seeing the Hollywood sign, driving around looking at the spectacular multi-million dollar homes, riding up the PCH, and also hitting up a late night taco truck. We’d also catch a rooftop brunch at The Highlight Room, go bike riding and roller skating at Venice Beach, hike the stairs in Culver City, and check out the gardens at The Getty Center. And before my friend heads out, we would definitely try and catch an exclusive red carpet event 🙂
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout God first and foremost – without my faith in Him, I’m not sure where I’d be in life! Shoutout also to my Mom and Dad for providing me with countless opportunities and support, and for raising me to always believe in myself. And of course, shoutout my amazing husband Darryl (DC) for being my biggest motivator and support system, and for keeping me level headed.
Also, shoutout to all of the cities I’ve lived in – Canton and Akron, OH (where I was born and raised), Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, and now Los Angeles, CA – as living in each city taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined!
