We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelvin Galloza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelvin, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This has to be one of the most controversial, most asked questions out there that I feel not a lot of people dare to talk about. As a Latino Film Composer/Music Producer I can tell you I had all odds against me back when I started. I feel, believe and preach that we must be one with our own universe and so there for the words “give up” shouldn’t be part of ones vocabulary. We got to hustle and then hustle some more. We MUST fall in love with the process rather than the “reward” so to answer the question, Only give up on the things that hold you back from getting where you want to be!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a film composer! Well I should said a composer for all motion pictures! Getting to where I am today was definitely not an easy task, but I truly believe that if your good at something and you chase it with all your might it’ll definitely fall into your universe. Some challenges I experienced getting started was for example not having enough resources to make my orchestral mock-ups sound as good as my peers but that led me to reaching out to a number of musicians who were just starting as well to develop my own set of samples which my gosh some I still use! I’ve learned that in the industry of the arts we are all a big family! We must be nice to each other and my gosh how important it is for us to collaborate with one another! I’ve always strive to show everyone that it does not matter where you come from or what your background is, although it may be a bit harder, it is not impossible to make a career out of the arts!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man!! I’d start from the valley of course! We would take a full day to go around Woodland Hills to go shopping, eating just getting the valley vibe going. Of course I’d have to take them over to studio city to visit universal! I mean cmon!! Hehe. And they must come visit More Than Waffles in Encino. Visiting Disneyland would have to be another full day! Gosh a week is not enough haha. And then the exciting mountain exploring would begin. I’m a hiker I love going on hikes and Tarzana has amazing mountains to hike. Of course we would visit Malibu, Beverly Hills I mean Rodeo Drive is so famous that we must go visit and it’s just around the corner from the Beverly Center Mall, and would end at the beautiful Santa Monica to enjoy the true Southern California vibe at 3rd street and the pier! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, I owe my career to the most humble and amazing man I know who kept insisting me to never stop chasing my dreams and that is John McCarty! Love you John!
