We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Wright Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking, in my opinion, is essentially the key to all success stories. Matter of fact, risk takers are usually the most successful people walking planet earth. You could have all the talent in the world. Your talents won’t be illuminated until you’ve taken the risk you need to be successful. I’d honestly say this has given me many opportunities but at the same time lost a ton for me. I never envisioned myself being the person I am today, simply because by nature I’m very introversive. I never really took chances to progress myself. Now I’m the total opposite. My senior year of high school completely changed that for me. As many may already know, I live in Dallas, Texas, born & raised. I played basketball all throughout my school years which eventually led me to the collegiate level. With that option, I ultimately had to make a decision on where I wanted to commit & continue my athletic career/education. I chose to go to school in Oregon & ended up committing to go to college. Deciding to move halfway across the country was a huge risk in itself. I knew no one & had no family here to rely on & watch over me. Although, the move to Oregon ended up being the best decision of my life. It changed everything forever.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an artist, of course, but I’m also a visionary. I like to envision things for deeper meanings than what they present. I dive deep into creativity & sometimes push myself to limits to which can be overbearing sometimes, but I do enjoy it. I feel this is what allows me to be an artist & excel. I enjoy finding new sounds & exceeding the limits of what the “norm” is.

I’d say I’m most excited of the works to come. I always acknowledge & celebrate my past accomplishments/achievements, but never dwell on them. What excites me most is what I will create next. It’s scary sometimes because you’re never really sure what your capable of until it’s done. I use this knowledge as a tool. I see that create vision as something I have to enhance & turn on when creating music. It’s not a switch, it’s a feeling, I’d even go to the extent in saying it’s an instinct.

The journey of me creating music & having confidence was not easy. It was the worst I’ve been mentally in a very long time. I never saw myself as a figure of someone’s interest. Especially when speaking in terms of music. I was a shy kid growing up, I never really spoke for myself nor had any interest to do so. I rarely took chances & had a hard time making friends because of it. Although, most people that did know me & spoke to me regularly always commented on how talented I was. Once I began opening up to people, there was always someone making a comment on how I should show my talents of singing & playing instruments to the world. I had no interest in doing so until my confidence grew.

I’d like the world to understand that regardless of where you start mentally or physically. The playing field will eventually equal out, whether you’re the top success or the bottom of the pool. That means consistency is the only strategy to outweigh the odds of being average. A lot of people that were ahead of me & saw me as the lower option, ended up being surpassed by me, all based on how consistent I was in this process of growth. Yes, I was shy but the way I oversaw that caveat was simply knowing that what I love isn’t going to present itself. The only way to make it past step 1 is to walk. I hadn’t started walking yet, not even a crawl. Baby steps are the key to any progression.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like Portland a lot, I feel there are many things to see. It’s not so much an eventful park but it is filled with many viewpoints & walks that are relaxing & peaceful. Especially if the weather is nice !

Next, I’d most likely take them to the coast. I enjoy the drive on the way to the beach & it seems to be one of the most peaceful drive’s I’ve done. Also I know a really good burger joint on the coast that would probably run circles around a lot of city burger spots.

Third place would definitely have to be Eugene. I know a lot of people down there & we could catch a ducks game if the time aligns correctly. We can also party with a lot of the people I know there too !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my parents, my brother & close friends, DJ Inferno my manager

These people are my supporting cast through everything which is why I’m fueled to stay consistent & work. Without these people I’m no where close to anything I’ve achieved so far.
