We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Lam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenny, why did you pursue a creative career?
Reason why I pursue both an artistic and creative career is because of my Dad and my kids. My Dad worked for The Brothers Studio in Hong Kong before we immigrated to Buffalo NY. He’s gotten to work with Hong Kong legends like Donnie Yen, Andy Lau, and Eric Tsang. Growing up I would hear my Dad tell me stories about the fun times he got to experience while working and it always inspired me to want to be apart of the Tv/Film Industry.

My 3 talented kids have always been my motivation to always do better and better myself. It’s given me the opportunity to do the same thing my Dad did for me growing up, sharing my own stories with my kids while watching them light up with excitement and asking me questions just like I did as a child. Each new project I get to work on is another story waiting to be told to the kids and I always look forward to it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Art varies from Acting to Singing to Writing and Twitch Streaming. What sets me apart is that I come from a family of immigrants that became citizens and now is an Army Veteran. I am most excited for what’s next to come in my career, I look forward to the opportunities and the people I meet in the future. I got here today professionally thanks to Buffalo State College and personally Drew Kahn, he among other faculty believed in my talent and convinced me to audition for URTAs which lead to Oklahoma City University MFA program in Screen Acting (Thank you Kristin Chenoweth!). It hasn’t been easy but the challenges have been a rewarding experience in helping me become more self-aware and the affirmation that I am following along the similar path as many other successful Artists. In order to overcome those challenges I balanced my life the best to my ability with work, school, and life. Therapy has been an extremely helpful outlet as well as the ability to go work out at the gym or go for a nice run outside. I want the world to know that I exist and represent the Asian American community from both Hong Kong and the United States.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start out in Culver City to check out the wonderful art throughout neighborhood. Next stop is Venice Boardwalk / Beach both are beautiful amazing places to take a walk as well as the many different places to eat. From there it’s heading up north to Santa Monica pier to check out the pier and take a crack at fishing. There’s also Santa Monica Bait and Tackle shop where the entire shop walls are lined with currency from around the world. I don’t really drink but foodwise we’d be taking a trip to Kura Revolving Sushi, easily digest 15 plates and then grab some cream puffs next door at Beard Papa’s! Can’t mention food without going out to Chinatown for some great Dim Sum at Wong Kok Restaurant or Garden Cafe for some delicious nostalgic Hong Kong style foods like Baked BBQ Porkchop over Fried Rice in Tomato sauce with Cheese on top! When we’re all nice and full then it’s time to take a drive out to Malibu to check out the beautiful scenic views as well as a stop at Neptune’s Net where the original Fast and Furious movie shot a scene. Other exciting places to check out are little Tokyo, the Chinese market in Chinatown, Manhattan Beach, Pasadena Play house, Fanatic Salon theater, Hollywood Comedy house.
