We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerry Lambourne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerry, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I would say that since having started my business, RainbowPot Products, I have always had a well managed balance. I don’t set traditional goals or, time frames to start or complete tasks. I would say that my daily aim is to satisfy a need to work hard within myself and that shows in my business. If i know for example I have to get something done because when I look ahead there wont be other convenient time for it, I will push through to get it done. That’s just how I am. I would rather get a products made in a short space of time, photograph, run admin tasks, package & post to a customer in order to impress them with the speed of my service than let it sit on a ‘To Do List’ for longer than a week. Having said that, it doesnt really matter to me whether I start my day at 6:30am or work later than 9:30pm. Not to say those are my working hours, just meaning that if Im up to the task at that particular time and I feel happy getting on with it, I will. At the end of the day, noone is going to push you like yourself, so why not get niggles out of your mind in the present moment by completing a task?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are many crochet crafters out there and many write and publish their own patterns/designs on various platforms. With 2020 lockdown I am sure many more people have found the meditative process that crochet techniques can provide to an individual. After all that is surely why i began this journey in the first place. During 2019, while abroad in Madagascar on a conservation research role I started writing my original designs up to sell as PDF copies. This was a great way for me to potentially earn while living abroad without shipping out products. Since then I have found the mathematics of creating perfect stitch counts for my designs to be recreated by other supportive crocheters. My earlier design EyeBall Tit Cupz pattern is particular favourite as there is noone in the world who does the straps or eyes exactly the same. I launched a FREE pattern on my Ravelry early 2020 named the Shine Bright Halter, a way of sharing my shine to others and saying thankyou to the crafting community. I have a background in Animal Behaviour and think about the impact my business choices have on the environment. I source alot of my material from local, upcycled or gifted sources and mostly buy natural, biodegradable fibres. I have expanded my skill sets to spin my own fibers and make my own yarn materials and dyes for them. There is still so much to learn and that I can share with others, it is a continuous journey of self expansion and improvement.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
