We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Reece and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
How to be professional at all times, because you are being watched at all times. How to be able to take no for an answer. How to be early not so much on time. You are not a fan, you are there to document the event. Get to know the PR people.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a visual artist, but I cover mostly sports. I am always looking for a different photo other than just action, which not easy covering a game. My photos on the cover of Sports Illustrated and my photo coffee table book. Shooting a lot of games over the years. It’s not easy at all, lots of early morning flights out of LAX. Just shooting as many events/games as possible. Look for reaction not so much action during a game. I have much love and respect for the art form of photography.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, Ride up the coast on PCH, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood & Highland, Santa Moncia Pier, Disneyland, Disney Music Hall, Pinks, Roccoe’s Chicken and Waffles,
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
High school photography teacher Carl Makower. My mother and father Bill and Cosette Reece. My loving wife Cathy and our son Kyle.
