We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenia Contreras and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that there is only one way to know what is in the other side of the bridge and it is to cross it. Risks are always scary, but I like to cross bridges and see what happens. I like to learn from experiences and take decisions with all the acknowledge that I have from the past.

Risks have being part of my life since I was young. I dropped out architecture school to follow my dreams of baking, and I started an online cake-business. Then I opened my bakery which I ran for three years and then closed it to move to USA and now I´m running my blogging career full time.

All decisions are risky but you won’t know what will happen If you don’t try, and at the end, what is the worst that could happen? Risks are opportunities that you have to take in order to grow. As long as you plan and manage possible outcomes, it all works out in the end.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional baker and a blogger, for years I dreamed of running a bakery and create amazing cakes for parties but running my own business for 9 years burnt me out so I took a break for 3 years to clear my mind and then I decided to follow my passion in a different way, creating content to share my recipes and knowledge with the world. I am passionate about my career, I love to bake and teach so having a Blog and Social Media to share and inspire with my recipes has opened my mind to a new creative world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Central New Jersey, we are very lucky to live here because we can visit different places in a short time:

Day 1: New Jersey Shore is a beautiful hidden gem so I would take a day to go to the beach, relax and eat in a local sea food restaurant and drinks in a local brewery.
Day 2: Statue of the Liberty , food and drinks at a Rooftop in Hoboken to see the sunset and NYC lights
Day 3: NYC tour it definitely includes a Foodie tour visiting the best spots to eat
Day 4: Brooklyn tour visiting the bridges and having Brunch in Williamsburg
Day 5: Princeton, New Jersey this place has a lot of history, restaurants and the best ice cream I’ve ever tried.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family, since day one my grandmother, parents and siblings supported my passion and me following my dreams. My husband supports me and encourages me to learn every day, with his kindness reminds me to be patient with my new professional role and believe in myself.

Being surrounded with love and trust is a blessing. I don’t have enough words to say Thank you to my family because being an entrepreneur is like living on a roller coaster, there are days were I want to quit but they remind me why I am doing this.
