We had the good fortune of connecting with Khadejah Chrysostom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khadejah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind of the success with Freshmen is keeping my brother dream alive. Freshmen was born on February 1st, 2011. The creator passed away in 2016, from than till now our mission is to “represent anyone who dreams big while striving an extra mile for success” As a Fashion Designer and a Community Activist, i strive everyday to live, breathe, and pray the Freshmen message to the world. Seeing others succeed and expand is our success!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When life gives you negative or traumatic life lessons, take those feelings of anger, hurt, confusion, emptiness, sadness, and that burning sensation to lighten up the mental mind. Think positive. That burning feeling inside is your light- it is your soul calling you, to connect with your true self. Heal, love, and nurture you. The only component God wants from us is to be better men and women on this planet. Your life lessons are your test before you leave this world, take the lessons and turn them into wins.

Freshmen was born on February 1st, 2011, the creator Khalid Chrysostom (my brother), stood behind his message of giving the people of our world who face any sort of poverty, hope and resources to expanding. Freshmen “represents anyone who dreams big while striving an extra mile for success. Granted one life to to live in the physical world, learn as if you were to live forever, live as if you were to die tomorrow. Live by The phrase “The Sky is The Limit”.

My brother passed away in June 2016, with no closure or answers. From having no website or professional social media, here we are, The first Toronto Streetwear brand to design hijabs alongside other articles of clothing (hats, socks, sweaters, pants, etc) ran by a Black Woman, my name is Khadejah Chrysostom. I’ve taken on my brother legacy, I spread Freshmen world wide with our international shipping option, our team travels to different parts of the world to create content as well donate Freshmen Clothing to orphans, and we host our networking events called “Vibe Working” which provides all size business expansion in the community with content creation that businesses need to help expand their dream or passion. Launched our first event in June 2019, we are currently on Vol 7. Shop us in person featured in Scarborough Town Centre Mall in the BlackOwned Toronto store!

Love, K.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Toronto we are very diverse and full of culture! I would take anyone to Kensington Market, a street market filled with exquisite jewellery, clothing and lots of yummy cultural food. Moving forward to Hamiliton or St. Catherines where there are lots of waterfalls and nature hikes to go on. Ending it off with The Fresh Kitchen, a soul food Caribbean restaurant located in Etobicoke.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My number one shout out always goes to the most High, The source of all creations for blessing me with the strength and the ability to connect with all sorts of versatile people including our photographer Serena D’Cruze @SeenaCruze. An inspiring photographer from the beautiful Island of Grenada. Serena and I met through social media, connected and the rest is HERstory in the making. Great Job Serena, keep striving an extra mile for success!
