We had the good fortune of connecting with Kid Lennon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
What role has risk played in your life or career?
Whether it was leaving highschool with the blind confidence to become a full time artist, or the time I decided to step on stage in front of Shaq, risk has always been the main driving force in my success. I have never had a plan B on this journey, therefore the risks only seemed like necessary leaps that needed to be taken to eventually find my footing as an artist.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a colorblind artist i like to think that I simply have a different perspective on the world around me. I search for vivid and bright colors, moments, memories. It is hard for me to see most colors but the ones i do see i see them with the most beauty. I try to apply the same mindset in my music and paintings. I want to bring the vivid, wide-eyed youth back out of people. I want them to see the world for the beauty in the cracks.
I’ve slowly learned that people are searching for that feeling i capture in paintings, art, music, shows. That’s what seemed to help my brand find its niche of people. Becoming a full time artist was simply supply and demand. There is a huge demand for a bit of relief and joy through the arts. That’s all I aim to do. Bring more smiles, more laughs, more emotions out of people that challenge the day to day monotony.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I travel between Oklahoma City and LA most of the time. In okc i would make sure to take them to all of the country fried food spots, maybe for a scooter ride around downtown to see some local murals, and to a live music show of a local act to show how much talent oklahoma has hidden.
In LA I’m still the tourist in a way, so i would have to just go with the flow and see where the wild world of California decides to take us.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Id love to dedicate this to my little brother Evan, who always saw the good in me and helped me find the good in myself. May he find his passions, loves, and dreams just like he helped me find mine.
