We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Body Dada Studio provides a space for communal gathering with health and self development at its core. We are a fitness studio that offers benefits to your physical body but also your mental health and see our services as part of a holistic whole. Our studio in particular is an inclusive space that invites all bodies and persons an access point into enjoy working out while having a distinctly feminine energy that is welcoming, inviting, and supportive of all peoples. Getting in touch with your body and getting a deeper understanding of how it feels and works is a gift you’ll give yourself that will effect everything and everyone you come in contact with.
What should our readers know about your business?
Body Dada is a fitness studio that honors the artistry and beauty in our lives. We aren’t a typical gym that focuses on results only. Clients stay with our studio because the classes are life changing, our music is motivating, fun, and cool, and our classes always leave you feeling better than when you came. The results are obvious and quantifiable but we believe in holistic fitness. I have seen bodies change but I’ve also seen people find confidence, inner strength, and build real friendships with each other. Body Dada provides a place where our community can find individual, personal and sustainable health in a gorgeous space and we care about every person coming in our doors. You definitely feel that energy when you’re at the studio.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some local places I love are Chifa and Little Beast in Eagle Rock, and Oriel in Chinatown for dinner.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to Kate Hutter Mason, the founder and director of Stomping Ground LA and the co-founder of LA Contemporary Dance Company with which she directed from 2005-2015. She is a pioneer of the Los Angeles dance scene, bringing contemporary dance and education to the masses. She built a much needed professional company for greater Los Angeles, providing a platform and services that continue to inspire the next generation. She is an inspiration to not just myself but to the many people that look up to her. I feel forever blessed that I got to work underneath her, dancing in the company she built and admiring her ethic and leadership.
