We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Judy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I truly believe that art runs in my veins. My grandma was an amazing artist. We used to always paint together. She really showed me the beauty you can create with anything from a pencil and paper to huge canvases and oil paints. I’m happy that I have art as an outlet. It allows me to turn off and just be. When it come to my career with art I started Rad Love hats with my cousin in San Diego. I loved taking someone’s vision and making it a reality or being given the freedom to design something for them. This is also true with Card de A which I own with my best friend LiLah in REDONDO Beach. Bringing in products we hope people will love as much as we do. Giving a space for creative people to showcase their products which I believe now is more important than before. Giving the small businesses back their place! I am able to sell Rad Love hats at the shop which is so amazing. To be able to wake up and love what you do everyday is TRULY a dream come true.

What should our readers know about your business?
Card de A which is my main business has been a staple in The Riviera Village for 30 years. I worked at the store I now own about…20 years ago. The original owners always knew exactly what the people wanted. I feel that myself and LiLah have been able to bring a little bit of “the old” Card de A back with a few new touches of own. I really also wanted to focus on supporting other local makers. People like myself who have small little businesses run on Etsy or Instagram maybe. So we try to always find some local love. 2020 was just one BIG challenge for everyone obviously. The one thing I am certain of that kept us going was really banding together with the other small retailers and restaurants during this time. Also focusing on customer service and reminding people how important it is now more than ever to shop small. Without the small shops and restaurants the little towns will never be the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If friends were visiting I would definitely bring them to the Riviera Village for the day. It’s such a great beach community. I would also highly recommend Laguna Beach which also has the best little shops and restaurants and beautiful beaches. And no trip to Ca is complete without a stop in Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills holds a special place in my heart because growing up my dad had an office down there and I would get to roam free and window shop on Rodeo Dr and that to me just never gets old.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my friends and family who stand behind me everyday. My daughter Shane who is the reason I get up everyday. To my business partner at Card de A, LiLah Volpe-Emerson. I am Inspired daily by the amazing women I am surrounded by. I couldn’t name just one person who deserves a shout out. There are far too many. I am beyond blessed by the people I have around me everyday. Thank you. Thank you for the love. The inspiration. None of this would be possible without the people around me.
