We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin McBride and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, how do you think about risk?
The word “risk” by it self is so broad and open ended, and I truly believe it means different things to different people. When you look up the definition of risk it is defined as “a situation involving exposure to danger”. Danger? Of succeeding? Great that’s my goal!! Failing? Well at least I can say I tried. Maybe I’m just wired differently, but I just never had this fear that I would fail. I knew if I was patient and worked hard I would make it. I think a better term would be “to take a chance”.
I took a huge chance by going back to school at the age of 32, being a full time mom and wife, and still working a full time job. I took a chance by opening my own studio only 10 months after getting my license, with 1 client.
If I wouldn’t of taken those chances, I would not be doing what I love today!
I have taken many “risk” over the last 11 years, some have been profitable and some and cost me, but both have taught me valuable lessons.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m not entirely sure what makes me so different from anyone else in my profession. I try not to think about what anyone else is doing. I talk to my clients and they tell me what they like or don’t like. I remind every client that this is their time, and if they want to gossip, I always have tea, and if they just want to relax or sleep, my lips are sealed. I put my whole self into every client. Professionally I am so proud that I still have some of the same clients for 11 years now. I have seen their children grow up, I have seen clients get married and start a family of their very own, I have even been one of the first people they tell that they are expecting! My clients are who motivate me the most to make their experience the best it can be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well it’s LA, so of course we are going to In-N-Out first, two of my best friends are from Ohio and that’s a long trip, they will be hungry. I would leave the rest of the tour to the professionals, go on all the buses, see all the stars homes. Walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame and defiantly show them Venice beach. Before they go home I will have to take them to a local favorite Villanueva Mexican Grill, best fish tacos around!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As cliché as it sounds, it would be my family! Starting with my Mom (Kathy) and my brother Nick for encouraging me to go back to school. My brother Fred for being flexible with my work schedule so I could make it to my night classes. Last but certainly not least my husband Curt and two kids Jared and Abigail. I don’t know if I would of made it through those 6 months with out them. My husband has defiantly been my biggest fan and supporter through the this whole Skin Within journey!
