We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Im From LOS ANGELES, SOUTH CENTRAL Area Right off of Crenshaw and Slauson. Just growing around different cultures, out looks, trends and opinions about what is hot what is not hot. growing up and not being able to have the lastest shoes or clothes to keep up with the “trend setters”. I didnt want to wear the off brand that we could afford at the time, so i just started to do my own thing from hats, t shirts, pants, i use to write on and print my shoes if they start to get old and bust it, just to keep them looking fresh or something different from what everyone was wearing. That mind set stuck with me to just stay out side the box and just do and wear with you want transform into a brand of if i like this someone well like it too. Since I been doing my own thing I might as well do what I like to do and share it with the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a founder and CEO at night, in the day Im a Mail man. Im proud of the fact that Im able to balance day work and running my brand in real time and able to design custom pieces for people, being able to continue to grow and evolve while bust out 10 – 12 hours. taking the risk of betting on me that I can that i can develop something the can generate worth i can pass on and open doors for the next generation. I want the world to know that RENEGADE is a Brand for the people the same as FUBU was at one point. We are not just a Clothing line we are a story, we are your story. yes we are base out in la can we are base out of the streets, build off of the street stories. The street football touch games, the double dutching, the hanging out one the block, the meet ups to pregame, wearing a Renegade piece is going to make you feel good just because you going to feel like you got a piece of the city with you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man we got to go on the Street Tour hit up all the spots, heading to Crenshaw and Slauson to pay respects to a legend nipsey hussle, hit up slauson donuts and Hungry Harold. then head out to Overhill grab a smoothie from simply wholesome stop by leimert park enjoy some good vibes. head up to melrose pick up some exclusive kicks from one of the high end sneaker’s shops. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout a person that just push me and hold me to my goals and keeps me motivated Darjae Crenshaw – Amazing Printer check her out asap on Instgram : black.canvas.love
