We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Canty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from Napa, California. Yes, wine country! And I have lived in Los Angeles for 11 years now. Some will say I can call LA home now but deep down inside I believe my home is still Napa. Although, living in Los Angeles has changed my perspective on a lot in my life. In a great way. When I first moved to LA I was freshly out of High School, about 18 years old. My parents and siblings have supported me since my move but in back of their head I know they were a bit nervous for me since I am the youngest in my family. I have always been independent so I thought I would test the waters by moving away from home and challenging myself in a much bigger city. I, indeed was the first within my siblings to finish college and I knew I wanted to be a role model for my younger nieces and nephews. I have always been the type of person to take a further step and go with the flow. Even though life can be a bit scary, especially living in a big city. I’ve dreamed of working in the beauty industry since I was a little girl collecting lip glosses, chapsticks, and lipsticks. In my years of middle and high school I was never really confident within myself because all my friends were much thinner than me and could eat whatever they wanted (I know there’s so many young woman out there that feel the same). I also had acne growing up and horrible scarring on my face from acne. While setting life goals, I knew that my move to Los Angeles would not only make me stronger but also face my fears. When I think of LA, I think of Glam and Movie Stars! Now if this isn’t a scary place for me, I don’t know what is. Everyone here is so beautiful and so diverse. But in my years of living here and going to school here, getting to know people, and loving MYSELF I found a way to be confident and give my energy to my clients. I believe every single woman needs to love themselves and be confident!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I first started working at Skin Body Lounge in 2013 when I first started working for an incredible woman named, Ester. While I was a receptionist there I was going to esthetic school because I knew my passion was to work in the rooms with clients. After receiving my license in 2014 as an esthetician that’s when my passion grew even more in the beauty industry. Working in the rooms with clients not only made me confident but giving the results to my clients was so rewarding and seeing them happy and gain their confidence. Before receiving my license I knew I always wanted to open up my own business but I knew I had to be an employee to gain knowledge and the most important piece, clients! My years of working for Skin Body Lounge I learned so much by the women I was surrounded by and my boss at the time. After getting my esthetic license, I knew my goal was to gain a clientele that would fall in love with me and the work that I do. March 2021 my boss at the time decided to sell. So my business partner and I thought it was be the perfect spa to purchase because it was a spa already established and it was a spa that I worked at for years. And then the pandemic happened. So as we were shut down it gave us the time to remodel and build this spa into a Medical Spa. My business partner and I knew that we were only going to grow into something bigger by bringing in a doctor. We had been shut down for 6 months and we were ready to open and show off the spa we had remodeled everyday by ourselves during the pandemic. Boy was it tough, many tears, laughs, and so much joy seeing this beautiful Medical Spa of ours flourish to what we have made it. We truly believe because we made it threw 2020 by faith and hope , we can make it threw anything! 2021 will be ours!! I am so excited about my clients coming into the spa and seeing the changes that had been made to the spa and all the new services we have coming for them. While being a Medical Spa on Ventura Blvd we have to stand out and be different. What makes us different is the warmth we give to every client that walks threw the front door. We are a Medical Spa that wants you to gain your confidence. Our logo is “Fine Tune Your Body.” We all need fine tuning, whether it’s your face or body – no one is perfect. As women we look at ourselves in the mirror everyday and wish we had this or that. And we know that being woman can get very expensive but at Skin Body Lounge Med Spa we make it as affordable as possible. We have a membership program which you only pay $45 annual and get up to 50% off all esthetic services and 10% off medical procedures and 10% off products. I mean what a deal! The majority of our services are little to no down time. We want everyone that walks into our spa to walk out with so much confidence!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Boy, I love LA! There is so much to do here. Places I enjoy going and taking my family or friends would be; Runyon Canyon (of course), Santa Monica Beach and Venice. Even going to the fashion district in downtown LA to do some shopping! There is so many great restaurants in LA but my absolute favorites are Catch, Bestia, DAMA, Momed, and Gracias Madre. Pre-pandemic I really enjoyed brunching at Highlight Room, Castaway in Burbank, Mama Shelter and Pearls (which shut down, so sad). Anything with a great view and mimosas. Another place that is a must when I have friends visiting me from out of town, I always like going to WeHo and going to the Abbey for a good time. All you need is one drink and you’re dancing all day and having a great time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, in my past 11 years in living in LA I have come across so many people, have met so many people and I’ve always observed the way people have gotten to be in their career path they are in now. But there is ONE person that I want dedicate my shoutout to, Ester Haddad-Elkouby. I first met Ester my fifth year of living in Los Angeles by my manager at the time when I worked at The Dry Bar. My manager introduced me to Ester because he knew that I loved the beauty industry and knew that Ester and I would get along great and possible learn a few things from her because she was a bada** business woman. When I first met her, she originally hired me to assist her husband and slowly moved me to work as her front desk at her Spa, Skin Body Lounge. The way she walked, talked, and ran her business, oh and I can’t forget the way she started her business all by herself was just so fascinating. Since then I knew she was going to be someone I can lean on when it came to the Beauty world.
