We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonas Myrin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonas, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Music acts like a magic key, to which the most tightly closed heart opens.” I love that; that music has the power to open a closed heart. It’s a universal language that can reach deeper than words, it can uplift and unite us. I really hope my music can do just that to people.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
2020 was one of the most challenging years for me as an artist and human being. but somehow also ended up being a super productive year for me (guess that is what happens to songwriters in quarantine) so in 2021, some of that new material that I worked on last year will be released. My new Jonas Myrin single, ‘FOR THE ONES WE LOVE’ comes out worldwide later this Spring, with a beautiful video directed by Se Oh.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What i love about LA is that there’s something for everyone. You can find the whole world inside of Los Angeles… So for a 24 hour in LA, I would start with breakfast at the Little Beach house in Malibu. There is something so peaceful with starting the day by the ocean, hearing the crashing sound of the waves and breathing in that fresh ocean air! I’d bring them for a walk down the beach and maybe even a little morning swim if the weather allows. 🙂 Then i’ll drive 5 minutes down the PCH for a visit to NICO’s EATERY. One of my favorite little restaurants in Malibu. The chef and owner Nicolas Fanucci is a good friend, he previously served as general manager at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon in Beverly Hills, as well as The French Laundry in Napa Valley. Their scotish salmon is to die for! The day then continues for a walk around Venice, down one of my favorite LA shopping streets, Abbot Kinney. So many cool little boutiques and art galleries. If it’s a sunny day, we might even rent a couple of bicycles and cycle down the Venice boardwalk to Santa Monica Pier for a little excursion and people watching. Listen to some street musicians and enjoy the beach and atmosphere! When in Santa Monica we’d drop by Goodboybob for lunch. One of my favorite spots in Santa Monica. My friend Natalie and Ben, runs the wine and food program there and it’s always divine! For some afternoon design / interior / art inspiration we’d hop in an uber to downtown LA where we’d walk around The Row. 2 acres has turned into an all-encompassing shopping, gallery and foodie destination, and suddenly you feel like you’ could be walking around the streets of Berlin or East London. it’s always a good time (specially on Sundays when they have their massive food truck market Smorgasbord!) As we’re in downtown i’d swing by my friend Stephen Kenn’s stunning showroom loft in the art district for a look at some gorgeous furniture and then onto Jason Koharik’s inspiring showroom up the road. Two of my favorite artists and designers in LA! We’d finish the day for a sunset hike up to the Griffith Observatory. There’s just something so beautiful seeing Los Angeles from that perspective. The city, the ocean, the hills, the lights…. Los Angeles. One of my favorite of cities in the world.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow. There are so many people i am grateful for… i think my sister Kiki – has always been such a support and believer in me and my art through it all!
