Meet Kyla Creal | College Graduate & Creative Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyla Creal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyla, what’s your definition for success?
I love this question because I get to reflect on how I used to think about success, and how I think about it now. If you were to ask me pretty much up until the pandemic, I would have told you that success is all those working 9-5s, everyone who graduated college, and everything academic and straightforward. The pandemic helped me open my eyes to the various amount of ways a person can be success. Now I look at success in terms of what I (or anyone) did to get where we are now. That girl who decided to move out of her parent’s home and get an apartment alone is successful because she took a leap of faith to do something she had never done before. The man who decided that he was going to get up and go to work today is successful, not because he did it, but because he did it fighting every battle that he is.
Success does not look the same for everyone, and that’s okay. Success to me is trying something that you may not have done yesterday, because that takes courage.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the beginning, I did not even consider myself an artist. I was just a girl who wanted to learn how to crochet and sew because I was bored during the pandemic. Now, I am infatuated with all the ideas and things that I can make come to life. What sets me apart is that I am still not someone who is doing this because I want to be a renowned fashion designer. I am doing this to make anyone’s idea come to life if they would allow me to. I am still a small brand, and part of that is because I had no idea what it was like to get into business. Not many people in my family are into finances and learning about starting a business, so most of what I know I learned on my own or from my best friend. If I could tell anyone, anything, I would tell them to really sit down and calculate the cost of what it would take to get off the ground, and remember, no cost is too small to include. You’ll notice it adds up quick.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am known for being the ‘organized mom friend’ so a week trip with me would be filled with nothing less than amazing memories. My favorite thing to do before a trip is research the place that we’ll be traveling to. I would be able to create an itinerary that allows us to visit all the historic landmarks, museums, zoos, and everything else you could think of. Fast food and food chains are out of the question, unless that are a staple to that city/state/country. We would fine dine and eat all of the nicest restaurants for dinner, while exploring the local owned places for breakfast and lunch. A week with Ky is going to be the best week of your life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man where do I begin? First and foremost, I want to thank God who I have been rebuilding my relationship with. I know that all things meant for me will come to me with God being the lead of my life.
I also want to thank my parents, Eva and Melvin Williams, for all the encouragement and support they give me. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it were not for those amazing people.
To my bestfriend Tyree, thank you so much for pushing me (even when I don’t want you to lol) to be the best person that I can be. Thank you for helping me open the door to my full potential. That means a lot to me.
And to all the people who have purchased items from me, shared ANYTHING that I have created and/or posted, and anyone else who has supported me along the way. I thank you all because your gesture may have been small to you, but it helped me keep going.
