Meet Kyle Katz | Founder & CEO of Bigger Than Basketball LLC.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Katz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyle, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has played the most crucial factor in my business’s success. When I started Bigger Than Basketball, I risked all of my money. I mean every dollar in my savings account, just to place the first manufacturing order for the clothes. I had no idea if the clothes would sell, but I risked everything that I had because it was something I believed in. I even risked taking a $30,000 loan from my grandfather with the potential of losing everything and losing the trust of a family member. Everyday I work for hours and hours, without a paycheck. I have not paid myself one single dollar from the profits of Bigger Than Basketball. Everything that I make goes back into my business with a risk of not making my money back. Every entrepreneur takes a risk at some point.

What should our readers know about your business?
Bigger Than Basketball is more than just a clothing brand, it’s a movement. We use our clothes to spread positivity throughout the basketball community. Our message is that basketball is more than just a game. It’s family, friends, opportunity, a mental escape, a tool for life lessons… It’s everything. Im proud to say that for every $100 in sales, Bigger Than Basketball donates a new basketball to underprivileged youth around the world. Every kid deserves to experience the sport we love.
Getting to where I am now today business-wise was not easy at all. There have been countless nights where I don’t get any sleep because i’m trying to improve my business. There have been so many challenges throughout my entrepreneur journey, and the way that I overcome them is by trial and error. I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of errors, but it’s all a part of the process. You just have to keep going.
The mission continues as I build the basketball community by giving back wherever I can, creating the best products, constantly refining and much more.
To anyone reading this… Believe in yourself, take risks, and go after your dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Scottsdale, i’d take my friend to some great restaurants during the day, and Old Town Scottsdale at night. Some places that I enjoy eating are Zipps Sports Grill, Blancos, and In-N-Out burger. The night time scene is very fun here and i’d take my friend to clubs such as The Hot Chick, Boondocks, The Little Woody’s, and many more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my mom, Robin. The past few years before I started Bigger Than Basketball, I truly had no idea what I wanted to do in life. I changed my college major 3 times because I couldn’t find anything that I was passionate about. My mom supported me through every step of the way, and she told me no matter what I do, I’ll be successful. She’s the most supportive mother and has made things much easier for me. I lost my younger sister two years ago, when times get tough she’s always there for me. Her support, mentorship, love, and encouragement means everything to me.
