Meet Lacey Rochelle | Poet, Author, and Incredible advice giver

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacey Rochelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacey, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
My parents always taught me that I needed to “pick something.” Growing up I loved dancing,poetry, academic writing, creating plays, and fashion. They often told me that I needed to focus my attention into one and let the others fall by the wayside. However, that often left me feeling unfulfilled. I think often times in entrepreneurship and life in general we are told we have to be one thing or the other and I just do not agree.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I was three. I told my mom I wanted to be a sex therapist. I have always loved learning about people are particularly how our relationships with others and our sexuality impact the way we present in the world. Currently as a second year marriage and family therapist student , the language of therapy has become deeply woven into my poetry and art. I used to feel very limited as a creative to talking about love or my personal experiences . However , now I take so much inspiration from therapeutic concepts and have an increased ability to attune to the world around me. This has made me produce art I never imagined myself doing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im such a home body I would probably need help creating an itinerary honestly. But it would definitely include some time in nature, food from diverse cultures, a spa day, going to an open mic night at Nirvana soul in San José, and a game night with friends

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have contributed to my success as an author but If I had to pick one it would be Michaela P Shelton. She started off blogging and has expanded that into creating a web series that covers so many diverse topics and issues within young black Bay Area natives. Also she always encourages me to stay consistent on my journey and that consistency for me may not look that same as it does for another person.
