We had the good fortune of connecting with Lana Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lana, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I think the world, as beautiful as it can be, is in dire need of more compassion and light. I see an opportunity as an artist to try and communicate that through music. When I was in high school, I lost a dear friend to suicide that rattled my entire town. My faith, family, community, and encouraging music are what got me through that… I already knew I wanted to pursue an artist career, but after that happened, my purpose became much clearer: To stir up hope, joy, and a sense of zest however I can.

My first original release, “Country Girl Guarantee,” that dropped this summer, is a feel-good, anthemic, girl-power song based all around what being country means to me. I felt it had been a while since a song like that by a female Country artist was put out and I knew I wanted to start my original releases on a high, energetic note! One of my favorite lyrics from the chorus is, “If you ain’t scared of nothing, with a heart made for loving, and they trust you ’cause you say what you mean.”

My upcoming release, however, will be regarding a heavy topic that sits deep in my heart: Suicide. I’ve been partnering with AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) in local events in Nashville since moving here in February, including hosting their inaugural Be the Light event, and will be once again for this song. At the end of the music video and in my promotions, I’ll provide AFSP resources for anyone in the thick of a heavy struggle. This song is for anyone not able to see past the clouds of their current situation… who just needs to hear someone tell them, “This ain’t permanent.” / that the sun is still shining, if only they “let the light in.” The end of the song lyrically reads, “This is only temporary. I’ll be better for it someday. Yeah, I’m choosing to believe… My heart’s still rolling like tires on that Cadillac and my road’s still open; got a full tank of ‘I ain’t done yet.’ I know when I look back, I’ll see the roses through the cracks and I won’t be afraid to face the hurt in it. Cause this ain’t permanent.”

If this song helps even one person recognize the promise of their life, it will be more than worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After reaching the Top 8 Semi-Finals on The Voice last year, I knew it was time to move to Music City. On a leap of faith, I packed my bags one month later and moved from California, where I’d spent the last five years, to Nashville, Tennessee. I had no promises ahead, only faith, a lot of grit, and determination. So much in life tends to be that way, I’ve found, and I didn’t want to wait for significant things to ‘happen to me’… At this point in my life, I know I’ve got to make them happen.

Since moving here, I’ve been blessed to write with some of the absolute greats in town and have curated what I know to be almost a FULL album that I’m truly proud of, due to be released in 2023. On top of creating music, I’ve been building relationships with organizations that I believe in, such as AFSP, and partnering with brands that align with me as an artist, such as the Grand Ole Opry! I’ve personally reached out to radio stations with my latest song “Country Girl Guarantee” as an unsigned artist and they’ve thrown it into their loop of songs, which is rare! Hearing my song on the radio for the first time with my dad and fiancé was pure magic (You can find the full-length video on my IG @ameasureoflana).

What sets me apart, I feel, is my intentionality and vision. My heart and personal experiences go into the music I write and I’ll only write songs that are genuine. I think in country music, there can be a mold that women may feel the temptation to try and fit into… But the way I see it – There’s already a Carrie and a Miranda and a Lauren… So I’m going to do my very best to be Lana.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just spent my birthday and bachelorette trip in LA last month! The place I chose to celebrate is Mama Shelter LA… You can’t go wrong with that vibrant rooftop and view! For brunch, my favorite spot is Aroma Coffee & Tea Co in Studio City. It’s a staple that I always bring visitors to, and AS a visitor, I always go back. I love the feel of it; a charming house turned into a cafe. Lastly, if you’re a sushi lover like me, Katsuya is a must. They have the best, freshest, seafood and are always throwing new recipes in!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is to my fiancé, Sean Beck, who defines true love to me every day. As a musician himself, he understands my love for music and he believes in the vision. He goes out of his way to support and encourage – “speaking life”, as we call it. Truly, he’s my favorite guitarist 🙂 We perform together often both locally and out of town with my band and there’s no richer feeling than being in the middle of a great set and looking over to see the love of my life smiling back at me, right there with me. I can’t wait to marry him.
