We had the good fortune of connecting with LaQuan Pegues and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaQuan, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Life is hard, Period. With the times that we’re living in, sometimes it feels like every decision we make is so final. What I have learned over the years is that life is not going to stop or pause when we want it to. Whatever decision we make at this moment is connected to our next, so if you stop now, you’ll never get to experience what’s to come. Every goal I have achieved did not come as I planned it. So now when I think things are not going as I planned I know that my goals and dreams are still coming so I must keep going. I also constantly remind myself that “EVERYTHING I WANT, WANTS ME”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a model and an author. My art is true to me. Working on any project I try to be as transparent as I can be, I want anyone that’s reading my work or looking at my pictures to feel whatever I am feeling in that moment. Being you is already hard and allowing people to see who you are is even harder. I understand me being me can help others or at least can relate to others so it makes my being transparent a little easier. The best lesson I’ve learned is that “You are enough”. This industry has a way of making you feel small and that sometimes the opportunities in front of you are bigger than you, and somewhere along the way you start to believe it, but no opportunity is bigger than you. I want the world to know that anything I do they can too, no matter your past mistakes or trouble… You can do it too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a cancer, it’s all about the views and feelings. Living in LA there are so many places to go and see the most amazing views. So, if my best friend was coming here there is a lot that we’re about to do. A hike to the Hollywood sign would be the first thing. We’re going to Inglewood to get food, Maybe Dulan’s or Ackee Bamboo. Taking a drive down the Sunset strip listening to Toni Braxton or Aretha Franklin on our way to Malibu to watch the sunset, and that’s only day one. During the trip, we must have brunch at Castaway Burbank for their Charcoal activated Mimosa, lunch at Joey DTLA for a Bellini, and dinner will probably be Short Ribs and Jerk Chicken at Akee Bamboo again. Good food and sunsets the entire trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started modeling with the Everyman Project led by Tarik Carroll. The project is putting men of all body sizes on display in the fashion industry. It’s breaking down so many barriers for men who look like me. Tarik Carroll is also a great friend that has helped me so much along the way.
