We had the good fortune of connecting with LaQuinta Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaQuinta, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be a restoration of power, strength, grace and boldness to the plus woman. A legacy that shows us as women of power, tenacity, femininity and appeal. A legacy of fashion forward trendsetters. I want to be remembered as a voice for plus women through fashion, as a visionary, a conversation starter. I want to be remembered for my bold choice and my ability to make the plus woman feel sexy, powerful and truly seen. I want people to remember me for the changes I’ve strived to make in the plus fashion world; the innovation I’ve brought to the table and my love and passion for the plus community and its place in fashion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an artist with all the corks that artists come with. I design from the heart and my connection to God. I don’t share my process with many people because it’s very personal to me and I’m not sure most people would understand. I listen to that inner voice that tells me which fabric to select and when a piece is complete. I wait for visions of a piece or multiple pieces and then I sketch. I’m proud of all my pieces, for me there are no mistakes, my “mistakes” have always been my masterpieces! The time put into creating each garment can be extensive and sometime problems arise with, textiles, machines or us as human but in the end it all comes together. There ae often challenges for myself and my staff but we make it work. I’ve had to overcome many challenges to get to where I am and it hasn’t been easy; I’ve experienced great lose from the death of my mother to all types of mishaps within the my world of fashion but I keep going. I’ve learned that I’m much stronger than I realized and I’m capable of rising to the occasion on things that I believe in and want to accomplish. I want people to know that my brand is a brand of power strength and beauty. It’s a story of seeing the best in yourself when there’s nothing left to see.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are quite a few amazing food spots here in Jacksonville, FL. I am a steak and pizza girl so my top places to eat include: Cowford Chophouse, III Forks, Mellow mushroom and Joseph’s pizza. If one is interested in a bit of shopping and eating I would definitely recommend the St. John town center, it does not disappoint when it comes to shopping and dining; the area has a good variety of food and fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people that deserve a “Thank you,” for their hand in my journey but first and foremost I have to thank God for my gift and sending so much support along the way.
