We had the good fortune of connecting with JustLatasha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latasha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to uplift and support my community. Famed Director Ava Duvernay says something I live by: “if your dream is only about you, then it’s too small.” I’m hardwired to be of service: it makes me feel good to know I’m positively affecting people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My innovation sets me apart from others: no matter how fearful I may have been in certain parts of my career, I’ve always challenged myself to enter new spaces and learn on the fly. Everything I created was made by my own dedication, drive, ambition, name and brand. I got to my current point by staying diligent, even though the many years where nothing seemed promised or fruitful– it definitely wasn’t easy and I thought about quitting several times. I didn’t necessarily overcome the challenge; each day is a call to keep my mind in a state of positivity and faith that my career will pan out as desired.

I’ve learned that support is conditional, and it’s imperative for us to be our own biggest cheerleader. I’ve also learned that you don’t need permission to achieve the goals you set for yourself– be as unrealistic as possible. I want the world to know that I did this for us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting me in NYC, I’d go to the rooftop of the Wythe Hotel for some cocktails, or Elite in Williamsburg for great food and music. If we wanna be trash, we’d go bar hopping in Bushwick off Wycoff Ave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my incredible, powerful, and resilient Black community.
