We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Moreau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I used to work in the music industry. I had a position I loved, but sadly, in an abusive company. It was two years ago. I was working hard, I was burned out, I got fired, and then depression hit me. So obviously, I had nothing to lose, and I needed to get back on my feet. Photography is a passion and medicine for me, so I started to shoot a lot and didn’t think about starting my own business. Luckily, people liked my work, and I started getting hired more and more, which is how it started.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
There are so many photographers, and yet my favorite thing about this art is that we all take different pictures of the world that surrounds us.

Practicing and curiosity led me to where my photos are today; they will probably be somewhere else tomorrow. As long as they speak to me, it’s exciting!

I am where I am today as a result of shooting a lot and accepting all the jobs. which was a challenge. Every client is different, and in an era where people overconsume or post images on social media, you are often asked to give quantity over quality. I find it sad and will no longer be part of the “fastphoto” consumerism.

I’m far away from where I want to be professionally, though. It’s a complicated industry; 70% of it is being a businessperson, and the 30% left is your creativity. With that said, knowing your worth and respecting your work are crucial.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If it were outside the city, it would be dispersed camping in Big Sur with no hesitation. In the LA area, driving to Mount Wilson in the morning, Mian for lunch, Agua Fresca at Zenaida’s cafe, siesta break at home, buying wine at Vinovore, beers at Tony’s Market, BBq at home, then a quick stop at Goldline & Checker Hall and a show at the Lodgeroom

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my family and friends
