Meet LawJQ | Rapper, Director & Founder of The Re3el Empire

We had the good fortune of connecting with LawJQ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LawJQ, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success, would have to be my passion for music. At the core of it all. It is my passion that drives all factors in which my brand succeeds from.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im a reformed gang member turned revolutionary. I hail from The Bronx, New York. Im what you call a outspoken rapper. I’m known for taking a stand against racism, violence, injustice, poverty publicly. I also promote the importance of black ownership and black liberation. Through my music, I typically speak for the oppressed, the underdogs who struggle to find their voice. With multiple dimensions to my artistry, chances are that I have a song for every occasion hidden inside my bag.
What sets your brand apart from others. What stands out? What are you most proud of?
What sets me apart is the transparency within my brand. Im honest. I know that may sound mundane and cliche. But my following can see that I mean what I say and stand on everything I speak.
I think in todays entertainment, said character is unfortunately an attribute that can and will set you apart from the norm. If I had to choose something specific though, I would say my choice of topics, energy and complexed delivery.
I would say that I am most proud of what Ive survived. And the duality of my accomplishments. I come from NOTHING, and lived a life in which I statistically should’ve been dead prior to the age of 18. I was really out there tripping, feel me.
I was able to live long enough to mentally mature and understand my past mistakes. While obtaining experiences that most from my environment may never experience. And for that I thank Jah everyday.
How did you get to where you are today? Was it easy? What did you learn?
I got to where I am today with will, passion and discipline. Was it easy?… Absolutely not. Yo, I done went through EVERY emotion possible, and to date I’m still battling many of them. But as I always tell my Re3els ” The worst moments of your life, are just as temporary as those you enjoyed the most” I live by that, on a spiritual and level and I physically see it through. Jah knows.
Along the way, Ive learned to read more then I speak. And to watch who you trust, and be careful where you distribute your time and your love. Its imperative you protect those attributes(trust, time & love) not only in entertainment, but in life.
Because there’s some things in life that you just can’t get back once its gone.
What I want the world to know is LawJQ is here. As not only as a brand, but as a revolutionary, a RE3EL. And I am not looking for approval.
What does your brand represent ? What is the purpose ?
I solely speak for those at the bottom, those who are ignored yet starving while those at the top laugh in comfort… We will not be ignored. Just as death is inevitable, so is the change that comes before. Jah knows.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my Re3els come out to visit or if we linking-up. We usually hit uptown, in The Bronx for them Caribbean turn-ups feel me. Im Guyanese and Trini so it’s just in my blood.
If we talking food, then you know Im a big fan of the taste not what the restaurant looks like. I mean yeah it gotta be clean feel me but food gotta be fire. So if its not dating vibes (I aint no lame I got class just saying lol) then Im taking the gang to this spot called Cool Runnings uptown near Nereid feel me.
As far as excitement I feel if it was somebody that wasn’t from New York, and like low-key they first time. Then I’ll take em down to “forty-duece”, which is 42nd Street in Manhattan, NY theres a lot of tourism attraction packed into one location(restaurant, bars, all sorts of entertainments). So yeah, we litty there, plus Harlem of course for the culture, feel me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off before anything I wanna give recognition to my mother and my aunt, period. Moving forward. I would like to send a shoutout to my family, The Re3el Empire, Highstreet, and of course to all my Re3els at the bottom, grinding in poverty with dreams for better days.
Its deeper than this music with me and y’all know that. Y’all motivate me and my spirit and in time, all energies will be returned.
