We had the good fortune of connecting with Lea Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lea, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because music chose me. In my life, I have been presented with many opportunities, but it’s always brought me back to music. I’ve been fired 1,000 times. . . I’ve heard “no” a million times, , , but people always want to buy my CD. So I chose not to argue with the universe, and continue to be creative. Music is a universal force that brings people together. . . And I love being a part of that. When someone wants to hug me over something they heard me perform or I see them singing along to my record, I feel like I am making a contribution to the world. I want the world to be a better place because of my music.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer/songwriter. I have an amazing LP currently now on all platforms so please check it out when you can. I cannot say that getting this far in my career has been easy, but it’s definitely been a fun ride. I like to think of my artistic journey like a hike. I’m staying on my path but along the way, there are babbling brooks, bridges, you may see a frog or two, there are fields of flowers, abandoned homes, but there is always a wonderful view at the end. It’s totally a journey. Powerful lessons I’ve learned along this way is never to worry about what you DON’T have and just focus on what you have control of. Remember that money is a tool. People buy your album so you can create more art, not stay at home lol . . .so get to work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting my city, the first place I would want to take them is the Dream Hotel to sip some Rose and hangout by the pool. We would then have lunch at Luanne’s Wild Ginger then take a walk down the Highline until the sun sets. By then I could have convinced them to take a yoga class with me at Laughing Lotus Studios. We would end the night at Chelsea Music Hall for my favorite party in NYC, Soul in the Horn.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out an organization that always shows me so much love while I’m in LA. Established by Lynisha and Xavier Henderson, SoulfulofNoise is a complete platform for the independent artists of today. They support and showcase the work of independent artists in every genre through our events and our website. Their SOUL intent is to spread the euphoria that only great soulful music can provide. They have virtual and live events going on now so please stop by soulfulofnoise.com to see ways to support them!
