Meet Leila Addams | Rock & Metal Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leila Addams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leila, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Dedication, consistency, passion, and hard work are all behind my success as an artist. I manage and oversee everything related to my music career. I don’t believe that success has to do with luck, but rather the energy and driving force you put behind something. I work on fine tuning my sound, visuals, and my brand daily, always seeking to grow and improve the quality of my art. Although there is no such thing as perfection, I pay heed to every single detail related to my music and constantly re-work things until I am satisfied. Because I am doing what I love most, I pour my heart into every project. Every song lyric, every melody- everything that you hear and see is a reflection of who I am and what I feel. For me, this is not just work but the very essence of my existence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My dark aesthetic, vocal range, songwriting style, and my operational handling of everything related to my music career- down to the smallest details, all set me apart from others. I am also a doctor of psychology, so my background in the field is a uniqueness that I carry with me and incorporate into my work as a musician. I often bridge emotional topics and mental health related experiences into my lyrics, and this is something that I am proud of. I am most excited about my new music to be released later this year, in addition to an upcoming live performance at the Peppermint Club on May 13th!
Something we dove deep into during our last interview was how difficult it was for me to get here professionally, considering the fact that I left a fully formed career in order to follow my true passion, music. Prior to my education in psychology, I did not have the full support of my family to pursue a career in music – even though it was something I was already doing professionally. I independently made the change back to music later on, as it was necessary for me and what I needed most in order to live authentically. Ending up back in music was ultimately inevitable.
Several years in, I have come to find that the more I trust myself and lean into what I love without caring about the approval of others, the more support I actually garner from those around me- even from those who initially did not support me. Of course, there will always be people who don’t want to show love, but I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago- and that is a very important lesson I have learned along the way. Be true to yourself, live an authentic life, and don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm…..well, I don’t really get out much, but I do love food. If my best friend was visiting the area we would probably go on a food tour of LA. Salsa & Beer, Sadaf Restaurant, and Kazu Nori, are all restaurants that come to mind. There is a little Italian restaurant I am absolutely in love with called Da Carla- it is cozy and intimate, the chef is amazing and the food is phenomenal! Nobu Malibu is also a great place for food and ocean views. We would have a quick stop at Bacio Di Latte for coffee or gelato. And one thing I would definitely not miss out on is doing a traditional afternoon tea. I am a huge tea enthusiast and really enjoy the combination of savory and sweet treats served on tiered trays. There are a bunch of beautiful hotels in Los Angeles that serve afternoon tea, so I would make sure to fit that into our itinerary for the day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my friends and family who have been ever so supportive of my decision to switch gears, pedaling back to pursuing music full time. I appreciate your love and encouragement. You cheer me on, show up to my live performances, and above all- you believe in me. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. TO MY FANS- your unwavering support and love has touched my heart in a way I never knew possible. When I started this, I did it for myself- but now, I do it for you too. I LOVE YOU ALL!
