We had the good fortune of connecting with Leilani De Marco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leilani, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe in risk taking to bettering your life and pursuing your goals of doing what you love. I’ve taken a lot of risks in my life including, moving from Australia to New Zealand at the age of 19 to further my dance career, all the way to the present moment (almost a decade later) of me working on my visa for America to continue living my dreams of performing and working in the dance industry! The risks I’ve taken have gotten me to where I am today and for that I am so grateful. Life is short and we all deserve to live the life we want and are passionate about so if you can relate to this, this is your sign to take the risk and do what you love!!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started dancing when I was 8 years old and I am not exaggerating when I say I knew straight away that it was what I wanted to do with my life. I grew up dancing in Australia, then moved to New Zealand to dance for Parris Goebel in The Royal Family & ReQuest Dance Crew. After that I became a freelance dancer. I would definitely say I am most proud of my recent achievements performing for BLACKPINK on their Born Pink Encore World Tour! I’m excited to finish the tour off with a bang and then focus on my move to LA next year. It hasn’t been an easy ride but I wouldn’t change a thing. All the challenges and obstacles I had to overcome including moving away from home at a young age to my most recent hiccup of injuring my ankle, shaped me into the dancer/person I am today. My experiences have taught me to be independent, know my worth and take care of myself and my body. I’ve learnt to be grateful everyday, manifest and word hard for all the things I want in my life. I want the world to know that if you are passionate about something to always chase it! I’m living my most fulfilling life right now and I couldn’t be happier and if I can do it, you can do it!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well this question is a bit tricky for me as I don’t live in LA (yet!) but my favourite coffee spot is hands down Amp coffee in Noho! I can’t wait to explore more in the new year and find all my favourite spots!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my mama, Dee, for never questioning me choosing dance as a career. To my sissy, Shanay, for being my number 1 supporter! To my besties Kayla & Todd for being the best friends I’ve ever had and for pushing me to pursue this life that I’m so fortunate to be living! To my special friend, Kiel Tutin, for providing me with so much work over the years, truly so grateful for you. I love you all so much and I couldn’t have done it without you!!
