Meet Leonie Persch | Artist & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leonie Persch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leonie, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Though I would not define it as a business but rather as a passion project – I started Indie Table – a community and networking event series – about a year ago in Los Angeles, with a simple thought in mind: “If you don’t have a seat at the table yet, build the table yourself.” After moving from Germany to the United States on my own to continue pursuing my path as a songwriter and vocalist, I experienced firsthand how exciting but also how lonely this industry can sometimes feel.
While there is a lot of genuine support among peers, there can also be a strong sense of competition and “elbow culture.” I wanted Indie Table to offer something different – a space where artists could step away from that pressure and instead experience a sense of home, built on trust, encouragement, and inspiration.
The idea is simple – bring people together around a table where collaboration matters more than competition. Through the gatherings, creatives meet new collaborators, discover work opportunities, and build new relationships. I also try to include as many people as people as possible from our community in my own music projects – for example, we just shot the music video for my most recent single ‘Dirty Habits’ together and had the best day together by improvising, a lot of laughing and dancing to the music.
The feedback so far has been incredibly fulfilling. Many participants have formed new creative partnerships, started projects together, and found a supportive community that reminds them they’re not navigating the industry alone. Seeing those connections grow has inspired me deeply in my own work as well.
Ultimately, Indie Table is about creating an environment where people feel safe to share ideas, breathe for a moment, and remember why they started creating in the first place. When artists feel supported, everyone benefits – the individuals, the creative community, and the culture we all contribute to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Vocally, I personally learned a lot simply by listening closely to the artists who move me the most, artists whose talent truly touches me. Some of my favorites include The Beatles, Tame Impala, Joni Mitchell, Ariana Grande, The Shins, Robyn, and Solange. Those are just a few names, but I’m inspired by artists across many different art forms. Exceptional talent exists everywhere, and art itself is very subjective.
This belief has actually become a source of strength for me when things are challenging, as they often are in a creative career. I remind myself that success is rarely linear for anyone. Anything can happen at any time. The most important thing is simply to keep going and to find a way of creating that feels sustainable and brings you joy for as many days of the week as possible.
When I first started making music, I believed you had to commit to a specific genre for a long period of time in order to build a career. Over time, my perspective shifted. Today I’m much more interested in creating what genuinely feels right and authentic to me. I believe that when something in art is forced, whether to satisfy trends or expectations, it rarely touches people in the same way as something that comes straight from the heart. I think, authenticity will always resonate more deeply with listeners – even if it goes against the algorithm.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a close friend were visiting Los Angeles for a week, I would definitely start with a concert at The Wiltern, it’s one of my favorite venues in the city.
Another stop would be Book Soup, which is my favorite bookstore in LA, I love spending time there. Afterwards we would walk around the corner to Dialog Café for coffee and a breakfast burrito – I personally think they some of the best in the city.
For a weekend trip, I would take them out of the city to experience some of California’s natural beauty. Big Bear is wonderful for fresh mountain air, Laguna Beach has a lot of charm and Ojai feels very peaceful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I find it difficult to dedicate my journey to one specific person, because in many ways my path has been shaped collectively by the people I’ve worked with over the past seven years. Every producer, songwriter, and artist I’ve collaborated with has influenced the way I think about creativity and the way I approach my own work. Art is rarely created in isolation. It evolves through dialogue, shared experiences, and the subtle exchange of ideas between people who each bring something different to the table.
I’ve also been very inspired by Adlerian philosophy. One concept that resonates with me deeply is the idea of the separation of tasks, the understanding that each person is responsible for their own actions and path, and that respecting another person’s way of handling things is essential for healthy collaboration. I try to carry this mindset into my creative life, allowing people the freedom to approach their craft in their own way, while learning from one another without trying to control or reshape someone else’s process.
I believe this attitude is especially important in the arts. Creativity thrives on individuality. The fact that we all think differently, create differently, and experience the world differently is exactly what makes artistic collaboration so rich and meaningful.
So if I were to give a shoutout, it would be to everyone who approaches collaboration with curiosity, humility, and respect. Those who listen without judgment, who offer guidance without talking down to someone with less experience and who create space for others to grow. Those kinds of interactions have shaped my perspective a lot and I try to carry that same spirit forward in everything I do.
