We had the good fortune of connecting with LESLIE “Big Lez” SEGAR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LESLIE “Big Lez”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
If I am going to work hard, stress myself out, do something I truly love everyday and utilize the gifts God gave me..it was a no brainer. My company Bodiography = body (fitness) + ography (dance) encompasses all that I am with wings to fly, create and share.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I recognized not just my gifts early on but my passion and direction I wanted to go early on. I don’t feel I’ve ever made a wrong decision about a risk I have taken toward my dreams. I hope I always maintain that fearlessness & faith. Doing the work to be great is a daily & mandatory job. You cannot ever take for granted your skill and must advance it always no matter what. I believe that I’ve always been pro-active in my own vision and maintenance of technique. I am someone who has a thirst for knowledge and information, so searching for opportunities and placing myself in front of the right people at the right time with preparedness has been a blessing. Challenges I faced were those that I could not control. Men in the industry wanted a certain physical look from dancers whether it it was in skin tone or body size. None of which I could change even with 8% body fat. So I had to elevate my dance skill so that I could never be denied. I had to make sure I knew more information than what was on the paper so that producers understood I “knew what I was talking about” probably more information than they had when it came to artist or industry did bits. I want people to know that I prioritize my reputation because when it all fades to black that is all you have. I hope that people will know I am always professional; I show up on time, I am prepared and I am kind to everyone one on set always regardless of their title. I am a loyal, loving, compassionate human being who lives to express herself freely at the highest level. I strive to keep learning, laughing, living, elevating & evolving.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends love hanging out with me because I hate for people to visit me and feel “stuck in the house” I will plan a helicopter ride over some great views, something adventurous like trapeze school, I will find out what hot concert is in town and get the best seats and surprise them with the tickets, I will also plan a lil getaway to a safari wine tasting or Glen Ivy out door spa for the day. A lil adventure and some chill time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother, Ella who saw glimpses of my gifts as a gymnast and nurtured them every step of the way. She may not ever understand the passion of an artistic child but she helped to blossom one – thank you Mommy I love you. My Coach, Damon Albert… Sometimes I spent more time with him than my own parents within hours upon hours of daily gymnastics practice for years. His diligence In instilling in me that saying “I can’t” is NEVER an option and the importance of “consistency.” I live by those words til this day. Thank you Damon!
